Mykonos Gay Beaches – The Globetrotter Guys

Mykonos is the number one gay hot spot in Greece. You could feasibly say that every beach in Mykonos is a gay beach in one way or another!

There are many beaches all around the island however the following beaches are the main gay beaches in Mykonos that we suggest you visit.

We have ordered these Mykonos gay beaches in descending order of ‘gayness’. Enjoy!

Elia Gay Beach, Mykonos

Elia is the most popular gay beach in Mykonos. We had the chance to go during Xlsior festival so it was extra busy and extra gay! (Read more about Xlsior festival here).

Its fairly obvious that this is the main gay beach as you are immediately presented with the pride flag upon entering the beach.

Complete Guide to Gay Athens – The Globetrotter Guys

Complete Guide to Gay Athens - The Globetrotter Guys

Athens has been on our list to visit for our long time! It’s an intriguing city steeped in Greek history, mythology and some incredible Greek food. However, we did not know much about ‘gay Athens’ or whether there would be a gay scene in Athens at all.

Luckily, we spent 10 days in Athens, made friends with some locals and got to explore the gay scene. In this short guide, we will explore the gay bars, gay life in general, gay tours, saunas, hotels and things to do in Athens.

Let’s get started with our gay Athens guide!

Gay Area in Athens and the Gay Scene

Don’t come to Athens expecting a huge gay scene like you might find in Berlin (see our gay guide to hedonistic Berlin). In Athens the gay scene is much smaller but fun nevertheless.

The gay area in Athens can be found in Gazi, named after the fact that this area was home to the old gas works.

Gazi is considered to be the upcoming, cool place where young people spend their evenings to eat, drink and party. It may therefore be no surprise that this is where the gay bars and gay clubs in Athens have found a home.

Find the Sitges Gay Beach! – The Globetrotter Guys

Find the Sitges Gay Beach! - The Globetrotter Guys

Sitges is one of our favourite small Spanish towns. It’s also one of the most gay friendly towns we have been to with some great gay beaches.

The thing we like most about the gay beaches in Sitges is that they are easy to access. We have found that in many destinations, the gay beaches are quite hidden and it can take a lot of effort to find them. However in Sitges, the main gay beach is right in your face in front of the town centre.

Complete Guide to Gay Berlin – The Globetrotter Guys

Complete Guide to Gay Berlin - The Globetrotter Guys

Three words to describe our visit to gay Berlin – liberating, insane and gay; so very gay! Berlin probably eats other gay cities for breakfast!

There is an attitude of open mindedness across Berlin that seems to be embedded into its culture. People don’t seem to care if you are different and we really felt a sense of ‘anything goes’ and ‘you do you’.

Gay Venice – The Globetrotter Guys

Gay Venice - The Globetrotter Guys

Venice is one of those places that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.

It’s a unique set of archipelago islands, with only boats and gondolas for transport and many beautiful bridges connecting what used to be over hundred individual villages.

Once we had set foot into the city, we immediately fell in love with its charm and felt like we had escaped into some sort of romantic film set.

What’s more, when travelling to Venice, gay travellers like ourselves should feel very welcome. Whilst it may not have a big gay scene, Venice felt safe, gay friendly and put us straight at ease. We had no issues, or even looks, walking around hand in hand and being openly affectionate.

We spent two nights on our ‘gay Venice’ trip and managed to cover plenty of the city whilst still having a relaxing and enjoyable time.

In this guide we have shared our itinerary of how to spend two days in gay Venice as well as a look into gay friendly hotels in Venice, the gay scene, gay rights in Italy and local attitudes.

Gay Ljubljana – The Globetrotter Guys

Gay Ljubljana - The Globetrotter Guys

Slovenia has blown us away! You have to add it to your gay travel list straight away!

We arrived in Slovenia as part of Pink Week. This was a 4 day tour of Slovenia in a gay friendly environment organised by gay owned travel company Luxury Slovenia and supported by the tourism board.

Slovenia is perhaps one of the most beautiful, scenic and green countries we have ever visited. Whilst most people will have heard about its neighbours, Austria, Italy and Croatia, we felt that Slovenia was less well known and deserves more attention!

Not only that, but as a gay couple, we felt very welcome and safe in Slovenia. We barely gave being a gay couple here a second thought; and that is a good thing!

In fact, it is stated on the tourism boards website: ‘’Slovenia, especially Ljubljana, is friendly and open to all visitors. As guests who are members of the gay and lesbian community, you are welcome here. All the services provided by Slovenia to its guests are also available to you.’’

So let’s see what gay Slovenia and its capital city, gay Ljubljana, has to offer!

Sanbona Wildlife Reserve – The Globetrotter Guys

Sanbona Wildlife Reserve - The Globetrotter Guys

If you are travelling to South Africa you can’t leave until you have been on a safari! It is one of the most incredible, exciting and unique experiences you can have, and South Africa has some of the best safaris in the world!

When we made our plans to return to South Africa, we knew we couldn’t be here for 3 months and not revisit a safari.

We first visited 4 years ago and had an incredible experience in Kruger National Park, but this time around our plans meant we were sticking near Cape Town and the Garden Route.

This meant that we needed to find the best safari near Cape Town. It was also incredibly important to us that we went on an authentic safari that had its ethos in the right place when it comes to conservation. After our experience at Sanbona Wildlife Reserve we are certain that we may have found the best safari near Cape Town!

Gay Oudtshoorn – The Globetrotter Guys

Gay Oudtshoorn - The Globetrotter Guys

Oudtshoorn is one of our favourite stops along the garden route of South Africa. It is a little bit out of the way, but 100% worth the drive to get there!

Oudtshoorn is a small town one-hour north of George (the nearest airport) or 4.5 hours by car from Cape Town.

The scenery here is incredible and you are constantly surrounded by natural beauty and wildlife – Oudtshoorn is home to the world’s largest ostrich population after all.

On top of that, the weather is excellent all year round, and there are many fun and adventurous things to do in gay Oudtshoorn.

We have visited Oudtshoorn twice now and would happily go back a third time. It’s also a place where local South Africans take their holidays which is a good indicator!

We recommend spending 2-3 nights in Oudtshoorn depending on how much time you have. In 2 nights, you will be able to do 4 out of our 5 top things to do in Oudtshoorn and with 3 you can tick them all off as well as taking some down time.
