Traveling While Gay – The Washington Blade

Brent Hartinger and Michael Jensen
Brent Hartinger and Michael Jensen

Take a look at the picture above. Do Michael and I look alike to you? It’s true, we’re both white, middle-aged men, fairly fit, and we wear glasses. But honestly? I don’t think we look anything alike. Michael has a full head of silver hair — and I’m bald. Michael is at least three inches taller than I am.

And yet, as we travel, I’ve literally lost track of the number of times people have mistaken us for brothers. People often — often — even assume we’re twins!

Traveling While Gay

Here’s the explanation I’ve come up with for why this happens: it’s unusual for two middle-aged men to be traveling together, especially if we’re sharing a room. If we’re “traveling while gay” in a country or culture where out same-sex couples are unusual or non-existent, people search for a label to apply to us. “Brothers” is the best explanation they can come up with that makes sense to them.

Road Tripping Montana for Gay Families – 2TravelDads

Montana for Gay Families - 2TravelDads

We keep going back to Montana because each trip results in a different and amazing experience. From the National Parks, to the historic wild west towns there is so much to explore. Oh, and the food! We’ve covered quite a bit of territory in in this amazing state and have lots of tips for having your own Big Sky adventures!

Montana for Gay Families

There are many different ways to get to and to explore Montana for gay families. We’ve taken Amtrak to and from Glacier Country. Flying into Bozeman, we’ve gotten to do several Yellowstone Country road trips. And then driving from Washington State, we’ve gotten to see so much of the western part of the state.

One of our favorite local road trips is through the western region, as this goes through both old mining country and several ghost towns. You’ll see beautiful natural wonders and cool towns as you traverse the state.

Gay Disneyland for LGBTQ+ Families - 2TravelDads

Disneyland. We’ve been so many times through the years. I used to work at the park and have friends that still do. It’s one of the most special places we go back to.

In this podcast episode we go land by land through gay Disneyland discussing our favorite attractions, details of the park, and what we feel are the ride most worth waiting for. We hope you enjoy our discussion, and be sure to come back for our episode all about Disney’s California Adventure!

Gay Disneyland: Everything Worth Waiting For (And More)

In this episode we go attraction by attraction picking and choosing our favorites. We know that some Disneyland attractions are worth waiting 45 minutes or an hour, but not all… even if the wait time shows a long line. Clothing Optional Palm Springs Gay Resort

Looking for a Palm Springs gay resort? Stay with us at the El Mirasol Villas – the original resort catering to gay men since 1975.

Our sunny getaway was originally built by Howard Hughes in 1947. We have worked hard to preserve the hotel’s charm and privacy while providing the style and comfort desired by today’s traveler.

Walled and gated, our private PS escape is in the Warm Sands area, just blocks away from downtown Palm Springs, nightlife, hiking, shopping, casino gambling and gourmet dining.

Meandering garden paths lead to bungalows, one or two bedroom suites and studios on the property. You’ll also find two beautiful clothing optional pools and a ten man Jacuzzi/Spa with an outdoor shower.

The hotel even features a eucalyptus steam room.

Gay Manila, The Philippines – The Nomadic Boys

Gay Manila, The Philippines - The Nomadic Boys

In this guide to gay Manila, we’ve set out practical safety tips and summarised the best of the city’s gay scene, top places to stay, go out and eat for you to check out.

“Be super careful in Manila boys…” was the blunt warning from our Filipino friends in London before we headed over, “…it’s crowded, polluted, too much traffic and lots of thieves everywhere!”

But in all honesty, Manila is no different to any other big city we’ve been in.

Gay Manila

Our first steps on the streets of Malate were tentative – taking our friends’ words to heart, we ensured to leave all valuables in our hotel, avoided unlit streets, and stuck to taxis to get us around. But the paranoia that we’d built up was quickly broken down. Sticking to basic common sense, it’s absolutely fine in Manila.

We ended up really enjoying the Filipino capital. It has a pretty exciting gay scene with a super friendly LGBTQ community that loves connecting with foreigners. Filipinos generally are the most affable and hospitable people we’ve ever met, which makes it so easy to quickly make local friends here. This was our favorite thing about Manila!

As the hub into the Philippines, the city makes for a pretty sweet base to start exploring the rest of this phenomenal country.

Get Naked! The World’s Best Gay Nude Beaches – The Nomadic Boys

Gay Nude Beaches - The Nomadic Boys

What can we say? We love gay nude beaches!

With Stefan growing up in a cold and often wet London and Seby in the mountains of France, it’s safe to say we were deprived of our fair share of the Vitamin Sea. And of course, we always applaud anywhere we can get our kits off…!

Throughout our travels, we’ve visited many excellent gay beaches around the world some even popular nudist ones. There is nothing more exciting and liberating than being able to swim freely in the seawater…then dry in the sunshine in nothing but your birthday suit, just as Mother Nature intended!

In this article, we’ve put together some of our favorite gay naked beaches from around the world so you nudist boys know where you can feel free to explore your natural instincts as God intended! Just remember to apply plenty of sunscreen while exploring the nudist lifestyle…the last thing you want is to get a nasty sunburn around the crown jewels!

Balmins Beach in Sitges, Spain

Balmins is our top pick of gay nude beaches. It’s one of the many in Spain in the town of Sitges, which we rank as one of our favourite gay destinations in Europe. Sitges is located around 27 miles (44km) south from Barcelona. There are several gay nude beaches in the very gay friendly town of Sitges, but the best is the nudist beach called Balmins located just outside of the main hub of town.

Barcelona Gay Shopping – The Nomadic Boys

If you go to a city like Barcelona and don’t overdo it with shopping, did you even really go on holiday? We sometimes bring an extra suitcase with us just so we can fill it up with all the new clothes, art pieces and *cough* toys we find along the way!

The Barcelona gay shopping scene is fantastic for gay shops, with loads of different options. Whether you want to buy new speedos, harnesses, a few tank tops, or just something for a quick jerk-off(!), there’s always plenty to discover.

Sure, sex shops can seem quite intimidating from the outside, but hey, we’re all human. We all have desires, and these places are committed to helping you fulfil them. So shop til you drop using our guide to the best gay shops in Barcelona.

Gaixample, Heart of the Barcelona Gay Shopping Scene

The gay village of Barcelona is located in the large residential Eixample neighbourhood, bordered by the following streets: Carrer de Balmes, Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Carrer del Comte d’Urgell and Carrer d’Aragó. This section of Eixample is nicknamed, “Gaixample” (pronounced “gai-sham-ple”). Read more about the gay scene in our comprehensive gay guide to Barcelona.

To get our bearings, we always look for the main Axel Hotel which is right in the heart of Gaixample, then work things out from there. Most of the shops in this guide are located in and around Gaixample. You could also orientate yourself on one of these gay tours of Barcelona!

Barcelona Gay Restaurants – The Nomadic Boys

Barcelona is a cosmopolitan and exciting city, with a vibrant gay scene. We love coming here to party, celebrate Barcelona Pride, relax and stuff our faces! With such a great mix of people and culture, it makes sense that Barcelona also has a thriving foodie scene.

The unique blend of Spanish, Catalan and Meditteranean cuisine, along with Barcelona’s seaside location, make this a wonderful spot for a gastronomic holiday. You will get to try the freshest seafood, the most delicious tapas and many other types of food from all over the world.

The main gay area of Barcelona can be found in Eixample (often nicknamed ‘Gaixample’), with many fabulous gay hangouts to check out. A word of warning, most restaurants in Barcelona are closed on Sunday, but we’ve included the best ones that still serve food on the day of the Lord (a day when we’re usually nursing a heavy hangover and craving a bit fat greasy burger…!)

During our visits to Barcelona, we’ve managed to experience lots of excellent gay owned restaurants, as well as those with a mostly gay clientele, which serve up the most delicious dishes. These are our favourite gay or gay friendly restaurants which we tried and loved in Barcelona.

Restaurante D’Divine

Restaurante D’Divine has been going strong for around 13 years and is the best place to come to watch a drag show with your meal. Whilst the menu is a bit limited, the cocktails are delicious and the shows, hilarious!
