Italy is the treasure house of Western civilization. But there is a gay side to its story that most people aren’t aware of. From the Caesars to Michelangelo and beyond, Italy has a rich gay history—and many of its artworks celebrate gay love.
We begin in Florence, where we admire artistic treasures while focusing on the Renaissance’s gay culture and the artworks it inspired, such as Michelangelo’s famous David.
We then head to Naples, which is our base for visiting Pompeii; Paestum, with its beautiful temples and homoerotic frescos; and Capri, with its 2,000 year gay history.
Our final stop is Rome. We discover the gay love lives of the Emperors—from Caesar and Nero to Hadrian and his lover Antinous. We follow the footsteps of Caravaggio and visit the settings of Tosca and other operas.
Our tour is led by eminent gay historian Professor Andrew Lear and a team of local guides. And we relax in exquisite hotels, while feasting on the cuisines and wines of 3 great culinary cities.

Come enjoy this beautiful country, while learning about the gay side of the glory that was Greece!
We start in Athens, where we visit the Acropolis as well as less famous sites, while learning about the gay side of it all (such as the male couple who were ancient Athens’ Uncle Sam).
From Athens we take 2 daytrips. We visit Mycenae, with its famous tombs; Epidauros, with its ancient theater; and Delphi, with the shrine of the great oracle. Gay history is all around us. For instance, we visit the Lion of Chaironeia, monument to the Sacred Band, a regiment consisting entirely of male couples!
Next our trip takes us to 2 ravishing islands, Santorini and Mykonos, with 2 days on each. We see beautiful beaches on turquoise seas; stunning white villages, such as Oia, famed for its sunset views over Santorini’s sunken caldera, and Mykonos, with its famous gay night life; and amazing historic sites, such as Delos, the Greek Pompeii—with its amazing alley of stone phalluses!
