Chicago Gay Bars – The Globetrotter Guys

Chicago Gay Bars - The Globetrotter Guys

Our Favorite Chicago Gay Bars

Chicago is one of our favourite places in the US. We arrived with no expectations and were completely blown away.

Not only does this city have a huge and vibrant gay scene, it is a beautiful city with incredibly friendly people and so much to do.

For this mini guide, we are focusing on the best Chicago gay bars, broken down into the bars in Northalsted and those in Andersonville.

Northalsted and Andersonville (affectionately coined MANdersonville) are the main areas in town and therefore where the majority of nightlife can be found.

Sidetrack – Boystown

Sidetrack was a finalist in Logo Tvs ‘Best Gay Bar in the World’ and we can see why! It has plenty of rooms to explore depending whether you want to chill, chat, or dance the night away! For us we were mainly on the dance floor which has a huge screen playing music videos to go alongside the music. Sidetrack plays a lot of pop, retro and throws the occasional show tune in there to!

Chicago for Gay Families - 2TravelDads

The USA has several cities that are known around the world as being iconic or embodiment of America. We think of New YorkSan FranciscoSeattle and Chicago. Traveling to Chicago is really awesome and totally easy to do in two or three days; you could even have an unforgettable Chicago experience in one day if you were really in a pinch and wanted to. It’s an easy, walk-able city with unlimited potential and plenty of things to do.

There are so many things to do in Chicago, and you really can’t do them all on one trip. For your first trip, or if you’re traveling to Chicago on a tight schedule, these are the best ideas to make sure you explore the city and really get a feel for this incredible town.

To get familiar with the layout of the city, take a look at the map below. You’ll see that Chicago is on the shore of Lake Michigan, so there are several activities and sights very near each other since they’re all in that Magnificent Mile neighborhood, between Michigan Ave and the Lakefront Trail. We don’t include the Shedd Aquarium or Field Museum on our things not to miss in Chicago, but they’re close by too, so easy to add to your list.

Gay Chicago, the Paris of the Midwest – The Washington Blade

Gay Chicago - The Washington Blade

Chicago is a great city to visit any time of year. Fabulous architecture, incredible museums and affordably priced hotels (with no hidden resort fees) plus a great gayborhood (aka Boystown) means there’s lots to do.

GETTING THERE — I took my favorite airline, Southwest, which serves close in Midway Airport. From there you can hop on the Orange Line to your hotel. It’s a quicker ride than from O’Hare although American and United both have hubs there. To get around the city, you can ride the CTA. Get a Ventra card for ease of riding on both it and the “L” (aka the Elevated which is their Metro). They have a great elevated subway system as well as a good bus system. Rental car and Uber not needed.

WHERE TO STAY — I always stay in the Lakeview East neighborhood. Bargain hunters will love The Inn at Lincoln Park (innlp.com or reservations at innlip.com) which has super low weekday rates and reasonable weekend rates. My other favorite is the Hotel Versey which is a music-themed hotel that is also reasonable and is a short walk to Boystown, the gay Village where everyone is welcome.

Five Gay Friendly Illinois Places (Outside of Chicago) – Gay Star News

Aldrich Guest House - Galena, Illinois

There’s no denying Chicago, the largest city in the state of Illinois, is a bona fide bucket list destination.

With its futuristic skyline, explosive dining and extensive LGBTI scene, the blockbuster supercity is up there with the likes of New York City and Los Angeles as one of America’s most famous destinations. But there is so much more to Illinois than just Chicago.

Here are five charming and historical places to visit in The Prairie State, all driving distance from Chi-town, several via the iconic Route 66…

1 Galena

Firstly, with a population of just 3,255 people, is Galena in northwest Illinois. This tiny town makes a huge impression. Located near the Wisconsin boarder, it’s worth a visit for a photo op on Main Street alone. This iconic street is perfectly preserved with colourful, charismatic 19th century houses.

Why not visit the charming boutiques and coffee houses before mixing it up with a whiskey at the Blaum Brothers distillery? Or perhaps Amelia’s Galena Ghost Tour? The town is believed by many to possess ghoul-infested historical buildings. For blood pressure-friendly activities, head to the Galena Historical Society and Museum or the Galena Cellars Vineyard & Winery.

For upscale accommodation options try Aldrich Guest House Bed and Breakfast [above], the Jail House Inn and Inn at Irish Cottage.
