Welcome to the Oaks Victorian Inn, the only Select Registry Bed & Breakfast in the Mid Atlantic Region with the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award – seventeen consecutive years!

Our award-winning historic Queen Anne Victorian Bed & Breakfast Inn is in the cute historic town of Christiansburg, Virginia, close to Roanoke, and only two miles from I-81 in the heart of the New River Valley. We’re also just minutes away from Blacksburg, the home of Virginia Tech’s “hokies”, and Radford University.

Our Christiansburg bed and breakfast was originally built in 1889, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Oaks Victorian Inn combines a gracious warmth with Victorian elegance and all the modern comforts.

The Inn offers lovely surroundings, luxurious guestrooms, and memorable breakfasts every morning. Enter the Oaks, and you’ll return to a bygone era of luxury and elegance.

Our parlor/library offers a perfect place for relaxing conversation with old and new friends.

There’s even a large wrap-around porch, complete with rocking chairs, where you can relax outside, enjoying the perennial gardens and the tall, ancient oaks for which our Christianburg bed and breakfast is named. The Inn sits on Christiansburg’s highest hill in Southwestern Virginia’s beautiful mountain highlands.

Our air-conditioned Virginia Inn is open all year, with 6 guestrooms furnished with antiques, oriental rugs and lots of amenities – a rich, warm atmosphere, stylish and comfortable.

Our beautiful gardens provide an ever-changing backdrop for the five historic oaks on the property, one of which is one of the largest white oak trees in Virginia. The Inn faces Main Street, which at one time was a part of the Wilderness Trail originally made by Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett. Our gardens and fish pond surround a large brick terrace, with wrought-iron tables and chairs, a great place for breakfast or tea service in summer. There’s even a cottage and gazebo to complete the picture.

Each of our five large guest rooms offers a small refrigerator with complimentary drinks, private bathrooms, and some rooms also have body showers, jetted Jacuzzi tubs, claw foot tubs and romantic fireplaces.

Gay Days in Orlando 2012

Author: , June 20th, 2012

We recently had the opportunity to visit Orlando, FL for the Gay Days event. Gay Days is a week long event leading up to Saturday, which is the big day, at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. This week attracts over 100,000 gay people from all over and is the first Saturday in the month of June.  During the week, different gay bars around the city host event parties to get things going. The Parliament House is a great example. They bring in famous DJ’s and Drag Queens from around the country to perform. This year they even brought in stars like Chaka Khan, Mia, and Sonique. The host hotel is sold out to mostly Gay Days attendees and has afternoon and evening pool parties for both men and women, and there is even a trade show where guests can purchase some fabulous merchandise.

Perhaps the biggest and most sought after party of the week is Riptide, held Friday night at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon.  This private event is attended by a sold out crowd of nearly 6,000 gay boys, and some girls, dancing and drinking the night away in some really tight swimwear. Most of the parks attractions are open and heavily used by the partying guests. Drink stations are planted heavily throughout the park for easy access and purchase your favorite adult beverage.  The main stage and giant video screen were placed on the beach of Disney’s largest wave pool so guests can dance to the latest hits with the sand between their toes and Go Go boys gyrating on the stage for everyone to enjoy.

Finally the big day has arrived. It’s Saturday and Disney’s Magic Kingdom is starting to fill with a sea of red. Those attending the park that which to stand out as being there for the Gay Days event wear a red shirt to show their support.  Every ride, every food or merchandise stand was infected with red shirts. It’s a beautiful sight to see. Main Street is lined with red shirts for the three o’clock parade. As the day ends and night time begins we all again try and gather in front of Cinderella’s Castle for the night time firework show. It truly is the best way to end a magical day.

Sunday is the last day of the event and those who have not worn themselves out yet attend Epcot. There are still those who wear their red shirts and most others wear their rainbow mickey head pins that they bought at the park the day before.  It seems that most of the guys head for the rides in the morning and then after lunch they just go where the booze is. Drinking your way around the world at Epcot with new friends is a nice way to end your magical week in Orlando for Gay Days.
