Gay Honduras - The Globetrotter Guys

When we travelled Central America we were naturally a little bit concerned about our safety in Honduras and in El Salvador. We opted to join an organised tour to safely see and pass through these two countries. As a result, we did not get the time to explore ‘gay Honduras’ ourselves.

However, we did manage to get in contact with an LGBT local called Joshua to learn more about gay life in Honduras. Read the full interview below:

Firstly, please introduce yourself to our readers:

Hi, my name is Joshua. I am 37, from Honduras and I work as an elementary teacher.

I really enjoy travelling and meeting new people to learn about their culture and stories.

My favourite place to go is the beach. I love the ocean, the sand and the sun. I think the beach is the perfect place to rest, think, party etc, well to do anything!!

As a teacher I like Science and now after many years I am a first grade teacher. I really love working with young kids. I spend much of my time improving myself as a teacher to be up to date with matters related to education.

Also I am a couchsurfer, and I love to have people visit, to help them and to learn a bit about their country. I used to be a party monster but I am more relaxed now. I like beer, books and good conversation.

Transgender Cruise Planned for December

Author: , April 27th, 2014

Transgender CruiseTravel agent Jeff Land blocked cabins on a Royal Caribbean sailing in December for what he believes is the first trans cruise. “This has been a dream of mine for so long,” Land said, “because it feels safe being with other trans people.”

Land identifies as transgender and prefers female pronouns. “I’m hoping to book 40-50 people,” she said.

The cruise is on the Navigator of the Seas that leaves from Galveston on Dec. 14 for a week. Three ports of call on the trip include Honduras, Belize and Cozumel. “In Belize, people should stay together, but it’s gay-friendly,” Land said. “Honduras and Cozumel are both very gay friendly.”

Visiting the Mayan Ruins

Author: , March 23rd, 2012

Mayan RuinsMarch 20, the spring equinox, marks the first major date of 2012 for the Maya Long Count calendar. The hype has already caused a bump in tourism at many already-popular sites throughout the Mundo Maya, but with a little advance planning, you can carve out some solitude (and preserve your sanity) while contemplating the enduring mysteries of the Maya civilization at their remarkable ruins.

While visiting the sites of Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum in the Riviera Maya, I was fortunate enough to have access to Dr. Julia Miller, an archeologist specializing in Maya culture and architecture and tour guide for the Merida-based operator Catherwood Travels. Below, a rundown of some of Miller’s input from my incessant questions, as well as some practical tips on how to maximize your visit to the Mundo Maya.

Ask about group size before you book. Go with as small a group as possible, especially at larger sites like Chichen Itza. Ask before booking about maximum numbers, as well as the guide-to-guest ratio. Otherwise, you may find yourself straining to hear anything at the back of a screeching horde of clueless tourists wearing fanny packs and even bathing suits.
