Bear-Naked Chef and Scruffy Italian Traveler

Ready to be part of the sexiest gay tour in Italy of the year? The Scruffy Italian, that is me, will be joined by one of the hottest chefs alive for the sensational Culinary holiday of the year, in Italy of course. Because, as Madonna says, Italians do it better!

The heel of the boot of Italy, Puglia, is without a doubt one of the sunniest and most lively parts of the country, famous for its food, beaches, breathtaking landscapes… and hot men! Join Italy Gay Travels, that is the travel company I run, this October for an exclusive Luxury Food and Wine Gay Tour.

Puglia is home to some of the best cheeses (does burrata ring a bell?) and wines in Italy. Primitivo and Negroamaro are the talk on everyone’s lips. On our Gay Tour for the Foodies you will become a connoisseur as well as getting a little tipsy too! Puglia is also one of the biggest producers of Olive Oil in the World: you will learn about the secrets of olive oil production (at the time of olive harvest) by the masters of the trade.

Gay Tour Takes You Inside the Met’s Secret Gay Art Collection

Gay Tour at The Met

At the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Andrew Lear guides our correspondent through a cornucopia of statues and pictures, thrumming with same-sex desire. If there was any doubt that New Yorkers would flock to make a homoerotic lap around one of the world’s preeminent art institutions, it was swiftly quashed by an overeager crowd of Ivy Leaguers.

In mid-February, art historian and professor Andrew Lear hosted a preview of an upcoming gay-themed tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a Princeton-hosted Ivy Alumni group. When double the number of visitors that could comfortably navigate the halls showed up, he had to split the visit into two tours.

Lear launched his company, Oscar Wilde Tours, last year with the vision of launching luxury gay-focused trips across Europe. In 2014, he brought a group to visit the tour’s namesake sites: traveling to Wilde’s haunts from Dublin to London to Paris. And now, Lear has set his sights on New York City, where he’ll launch a series of new tours in April to reclaim a gay history he believes to be underappreciated.

Gay Friendly Piemonte

Author: , January 24th, 2014

Piemonte, Italy

Piedmont (Piemonte), in Italian, means “at the foot of the mountain”. It is in Italy’s northwestern corner, bordered by Switzerland and France. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Alps, Piemonte’s castles, cuisine and world-class wines are as wonderful as any other region in Italy.

The good news is that this beautiful region has not yet become overrun with tourists.

Torino (Turin) is the capital of the Piemonte region. Turin is also the home of the famous Shroud of Turin and offers a wide range of gay and gay-friendly clubs, especially over weekends. The queever is a very popular disco-night on sundays. The Italian LGBT Film Festival is heldn here, along with one of the biggest Italian gay-pride celebrations.

Langhe is the hilly sub-region east of the Tanaro River and south of Alba, in the Cuneo province of Piedmont. The name ‘Langhe’ is the plural form of langa, a local word for a long, low-lying hill.

The following wines can be found only in this area: Barolo Docg, Barbaresco, Docg Roero Docg, Roero Arneis Docg, Dogliani Docg, Diano d’Alba Docg, Nebbiolo d’Alba Doc, Barbera d’Alba Doc, Dolcetto d’Alba Doc, Verduno Doc, Langhe Doc, Alba Doc.

Lake OrtaThe Monferrato area consists of a series of hills below the River Po, in the southeast corner of Piedmont, in north- western Italy. Like Langhe, this zone received its own DOC in 1994, and follows similar relaxed rules allowing the blending of native varieties with international grapes. Some of the DOC wines that can be found in the Monferrato area: Barbera d’Asti superiore, Grignolino, Dolcetto d’Asti, Freisa, Moscato d’Asti and Asti Spumante.

There’s also lake Orta, defined as of the most romantic lakes. The lake has always been popular with writers. In the 19th century, Friedrich Nietzsche, Samuel Butler, Lord Byron, Honore de Balzac and Robert Browning all came here.

My Hidden Italy is offering a tour of this rich part of the Italian countryside. Our itinerary in Piemonte connects these three areas and Lake Orta, and will end in Milan, where a guided tour of the city will be provided.
