We’ve spent a lot of time at Bear Week in Provincetown so it is amusing to see a new VICELAND (Vice’s new TV channel) segment on the annual rendezvous.

Calling it “a world of many contrasts,” reporter Thomas Morton (the hairless twink in the shot above) headed to Bear Week to dig down into the world of bear culture, find out about the lingo, and check out just what goes on in the pool at the Provincetown Inn.

Says Morton:

“The term bear once referred to a very specific type of gay man, particularly a big and hairy gay man. Over time bears have evolved into an entire family of gay men of various body types and hairinesses…”

San Francisco Bear Week 2014

14-17 February the season for hibernation is over as San Francisco Bear Weekend roars into town! Going on 22 years, the event had gone a bit dormant but due to some social media driven inspiration, the bears have decided to get back together and make 2014 the best Bear Weekend yet! With successful events in 2012 and 2013, this one is sure to top them all.

P’town Bear Week 2013

While the toned and hairless circuit boys may rule the magical, uber-queer mecca of Provincetown, MA during the week around July 4th, the next week the ferries carried a whole other subspecies into the port: bears, otters, cubs, and chasers, for the Provincetown Bears’ annual Provincetown Bear Week! Bear Week, which took place from July 13-21st this year, has become one of the artsy Cape Cod town’s most massive, popular events. And while a few grousing fur-phobic twinks could be spotted along the Commercial Street strip, many families and tourists adored the hirsute crowd.
