5 STAR SERVICE EUROPEAN-STYLE GUESTHOUSE
The Reiss House is not a Bed and Breakfast in the conventional sense. In addition to 'traditional' overnight guests, the Reiss House welcomes small retreats, private meetings, and music and art conventions.
The three suites at The Reiss House have a total of six bedrooms with queen size beds.
The 'Cathedral', our largest suite, is an 800 sqft attic with a large living room, two bedrooms and provides absolute privacy for 4-6 patrons.
The Duchess' & Princess are two charming rooms, both have balconies, facing south and east, decorated with antique German flower paintings, antique rugs and antique furniture.
The Emperor and Knight's are the rooms on the opposing side of the house, with golden color and majesty, and wall prints of the royal times of central Europe and Germany, and books from far away.
A delicious German breakfast with freshly made house-made German rolls and whole-grain bread is served every morning between 8:30h and 10:30h in the Tea Room, which also functions as a meeting and dining room. A fine, catered dinner a la carte is available for the hotel guests if desired.
The grand heritage room is ideal to lounge and listen to music, be it a live musician playing the amazing Baby Grand, or from the large selection of classical, Jazz or contemporary music. A pool billiard table becomes the center of attention at night.
In the warmer season, the porch, the balconies, the fire pit and large yard are very inviting to just hang out.
And, this amazing house, built in 1898, is only 5 minutes walking distance from Mirror Lake or Main Street Lake Placid. Leave your car here, and stroll around the Lake or to a restaurant or shop.
In the house, you will be immersed in a mixture of American and German history - in 2019, the owner relocated the estate of his parents and grandparents - furniture, rugs, paintings, photographs, artifacts - into this unique Adirondack House which was built seven years before Lake Placid was incorporated in 1905. Mary Reiss, a prior owner of the house, was loved in town. The Reiss family have their own history in Lake Placid, including a philanthropic organization for underprivileged youth which is active until today.
Lake Placid is a busy place, in the summer with horseshows, Ironman, LaCrosse tournaments and many more. In the winter, the village is filled with guests enjoying the winter sport activities. The Adirondack mountains offer amazing opportunities for hiking, biking and motorcycling. Our house on Signal Hill (the hill between Mirror Lake and Lake Placid) - is located in such a quiet neighborhood that one can entirely ignore all the commotion going on in town, or dive right in.
We have a welcoming, pleasant and culturally stimulating atmosphere. We love good food. We love good conversations. If you want to plan some sort of meeting or retreat, contact us directly, and we will work with your budget.
We are looking forward to meet you.
