Venice is one of those places that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.

It’s a unique set of archipelago islands, with only boats and gondolas for transport and many beautiful bridges connecting what used to be over hundred individual villages.

Once we had set foot into the city, we immediately fell in love with its charm and felt like we had escaped into some sort of romantic film set.

What’s more, when travelling to Venice, gay travellers like ourselves should feel very welcome. Whilst it may not have a big gay scene, Venice felt safe, gay friendly and put us straight at ease. We had no issues, or even looks, walking around hand in hand and being openly affectionate.

We spent two nights on our ‘gay Venice’ trip and managed to cover plenty of the city whilst still having a relaxing and enjoyable time.

Gay Ljubljana – The Globetrotter Guys

Slovenia has blown us away! You have to add it to your gay travel list straight away!

We arrived in Slovenia as part of Pink Week. This was a 4 day tour of Slovenia in a gay friendly environment organised by gay owned travel company Luxury Slovenia and supported by the tourism board.

Slovenia is perhaps one of the most beautiful, scenic and green countries we have ever visited. Whilst most people will have heard about its neighbours, Austria, Italy and Croatia, we felt that Slovenia was less well known and deserves more attention!

Not only that, but as a gay couple, we felt very welcome and safe in Slovenia. We barely gave being a gay couple here a second thought; and that is a good thing!

In fact, it is stated on the tourism boards website: ‘’Slovenia, especially Ljubljana, is friendly and open to all visitors. As guests who are members of the gay and lesbian community, you are welcome here. All the services provided by Slovenia to its guests are also available to you.’’

So let’s see what gay Slovenia and its capital city, gay Ljubljana, has to offer!

Cape Town Gay Pride – The Globetrotter Guys

Gay Pride in Cape Town was not what we expected at all! It really is quite unique compared to many of the other gay pride events we have been to and we highly recommend you add it to your pride bucket-list.

We found Cape Town Pride to be so unique because of the people. We have never seen such a diverse and inclusive crowd of people at a pride festival! Most pride festivals we have been to have been 95% men (which of course is nice for us!), however this is not the case for Cape Town gay pride at all.

There is an even spread across all genders, age, sexuality and race – everyone is well represented which of course is what pride is about. We spoke with the Festival Director of Pride, Matthew Van As and he explained that there is a common misconception that Cape Town Pride is going to be just a festival full of the stereotypical white male crowd – the reality is completely different and as a result Cape Town Pride had a very diverse and local feel to it!

Finding the Miami Gay Beach – The Globetrotter Guys

Miami is exactly like what you will have seen on the T.V. and in films! It’s a trendy, vibrant and very cool beach destination. Miami has been a gay hotspot for many years with gay bars, gay beaches, gay events such as the winter party and a large gay population – we can definitely see the attraction to living and visiting here.

We came to Miami looking to relax before we went on an Atlantis gay cruise (check out ‘What is a gay Atlantis cruise really like…’) and so headed straight for the gay beach in Miami. There are actually two ‘official’ gay beaches in Miami and if that’s what you are looking for, you have come to the right place!

Sometimes when you head to a destination, finding the ‘gay beach’ can be a challenge, however all the gay beaches in Miami are very easy to find. Here is how to find each of them:

12th Street Gay Beach, Miami
South Beach Miami is where the majority of the gay nightlife can be found, so it should come as no surprise that this is where you will find the most popular gay beach in Miami.

The area is very easy to navigate. Streets are numbered running east to west and start at 1st Street at the south end of South Beach and increase in number as you head north.

We have been to Thailand many times and have had nothing but great experiences. Thailand has so much to offer from the crazy capital city of Bangkok, to the jungles of Chiang Mai and the idyllic beaches you will find on the islands in the south, including the island of Koh Phangan, where the world famous Full Moon Party is held every month.

Like most countries, we know we are in a privileged position as a tourist so we wanted to interview an LGBT local to get a more in depth insight as to what it’s really like to be LGBT in Thailand. We got in contact with Bud who was willing to share his experience, read more below:

Hi Bud! Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi! My name is Bud Jungsaitakul. I am a middle aged gay professional and a world traveler from Thailand. I work as a senior operations manager at a large multinational company. I am a Thai National, MBA graduate and I live in Bangkok.

Thanks, so tell us, what is the stereotypical view of a local from Thailand towards someone who is LGBT (either local or tourist – is there a difference)?

Thailand is generally very tolerant towards the LGBT community and is probably the most gay friendly country in Asia.

The LGBT community has been visible in Thai culture for a very long time. Stereotypical views towards gay men in particular is that they are mostly feminine and camp.

We fell in love with queer Rio De Janeiro very quickly. It is one of those rare places where you have the best of both worlds, it can be both a city break and a beach break all in one. Rio is a vibrant city intertwined with beautiful beaches, rainforests and mountains and we cannot recommend it enough.

You are bound to have seen pictures of the iconic Christ the Redeemer (aka the ‘Big Dude’), Sugarloaf Mountain and Escadaria Selaron. The best way to see all these iconic landmarks is to book an organised city tour of Rio De Janeiro, especially if you are short on time.

Rio has so much to offer which is why we want to share with you the best city tour of Rio De Janeiro we went on during our time there. It was the easiest way to see the best of Rio De Janeiro in one day.

After a lot of research through friend recommendations and through Tripadvisor we decided to book our city tour of Rio De Janeiro with Brazil Expedition. They get 4.5 on Tripadvisor and rank very highly for city tours in Rio De Janeiro so we felt very confident with our choice.

For us, we wanted to see the big ticket, iconic landmarks and so chose to go on the ‘Big Dude Tour’. This allowed us to see so much of Rio De Janeiro in just one day. It was lead by a professional English speaking guide and lasted 7 hours – a very efficient way to see the city!

Gay Philippines: Local Gay Stories – The Globetrotter Guys

In 2018 we visited the Philippines for our honeymoon and fell in love with the country. From a tourist perspective, as a gay couple in the Philippines we had no problems at all. However, we are always interested to learn about what it is like to be LGBT in a country from a local perspective and not through a rose tinted tourist lens.

This is why we got in contact with Brix, a Filipino local to learn more about what it is like to be gay in the Philippines. Check out his interview below!

Thank for the opportunity to share a bit of my life experience and insights on LGBTQ travel in the Philippines and my hometown. My name is Ruel Perez, my friends call me Brix. I may look young but I am 30 years old. I used to work in tourism & hospitality and trading in different parts of the world. Stockholm is a city of islands (14 to be exact!). It’s a city where traditional gabled buildings line cobble-stoned streets. It’s a city of stunning green landscapes, incredible architecture, gastronomy, cultural landmarks and of course, the ABBA museum.

Stockholm prides itself as being known as the ‘Open City’. No matter who you are, your religion, gender, race, sexuality, whether you are looking for adventure, history or luxury, Stockholm is for you.

Stockholm was not on our original travel plan, and we didn’t know what to expect. All we really knew was that it was the capital of Sweden, and being located in Northern Europe we would be due some very cold weather – especially as we were visiting Stockholm in winter! However, after spending a very busy 48 hours in Stockholm exploring this Scandinavian capital, we were completely sold and already planning a return trip in Summer!

We have pieced together a travel guide below which you can use to fill your time in Stockholm. We have also provided practical tips such as how to get around, how to get there, where to eat and whether or not you should bring cash.

How to get to Gay Stockholm

Stockholm has 4 airports receiving international flights, however the main airport used by most of the major airline carriers is Stockholm Arlanda Airport. It’s more than likely that this is where you will both arrive and depart from.

Bromma Airport is a little closer to the centre, but is not served anywhere near as frequently by international flights. Whilst some international flights do arrive into Skavsta Airport and Västerås Airport, these are few and far between, and most flights arriving or departing from here are domestic.

When we travelled Central America we were naturally a little bit concerned about our safety in Honduras and in El Salvador. We opted to join an organised tour to safely see and pass through these two countries. As a result, we did not get the time to explore ‘gay Honduras’ ourselves.

However, we did manage to get in contact with an LGBT local called Joshua to learn more about gay life in Honduras. Read the full interview below:

Hi, my name is Joshua. I am 37, from Honduras and I work as an elementary teacher.

I really enjoy travelling and meeting new people to learn about their culture and stories.

My favourite place to go is the beach. I love the ocean, the sand and the sun. I think the beach is the perfect place to rest, think, party etc, well to do anything!!

As a teacher I like Science and now after many years I am a first grade teacher. I really love working with young kids. I spend much of my time improving myself as a teacher to be up to date with matters related to education.

Also I am a couchsurfer, and I love to have people visit, to help them and to learn a bit about their country. I used to be a party monster but I am more relaxed now. I like beer, books and good conversation.
