International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Championships Comes to Edmonton in 2016

Edmonton will be the site of the largest gay sporting event in Alberta history next year when it hosts the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics championships. Up to 1,000 participants plus several hundred partners, friends and officials are expected for the festival Aug. 8-14, 2016, co-chairman Mike Stansberry says.

It’s a sanctioned masters competition, featuring swimming, water polo, diving, synchro, open water races, and the maybe-not-so-official Pink Flamingo.

The Pink Flamingo? “The best way to describe it is a drag aqua-follies synchro show in water … done in the dive tank,” Stansberry says. “It can be a mix of swimming, choreography on the deck, diving off the platform, costumes — although no glitter or feathers, because they clog the pool filters.”

Gay GolfThings keep changing all the time and usually always for the better ! In today’s world, gays can participate in all kinds of sports and be very out and proud about it. No longer must we hide in the closet while participating in sports.

In our travels from coast to coast we often get asked if we know any gay golfers or any gay tennis players or where they can find some other gays who like those sports. Sure we can “golf and tennis” with the best of the straights however sometimes we want to be in a league or own and enjoy gays when are in the sporting world.

There are hundreds if not thousands of gay bowling leagues around the country where gays have been enjoying themselves for years. Here in greater Kansas City we have had gay bowling leagues for over 40 years now. But that happens usually only in larger cities. For those into tennis and golf, where not as many gays are participating, it is harder to find. Thousands of people fly to Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Phoenix and Hawaii to golf all the time so with a little searching you should be able to find someplace where you can enjoy playing the sport with other gays. We are going to list several websites here to visit and then you can find out for yourselves about the possibilities of enjoying yourself with other gays.

Gay TennisIt is always nice just traveling and meeting new and interesting people, dining at new restaurants, seeing the sights and sounds of a new location but on the other hand for a lot of gays it is also nice to bring with you the opportunity to indulge in a sport that you like with other gays.

Just a little search on the web can bring endless possibilities for you. And if you are planning on staying in a resort, by all means check ahead of time with the staff of the resort about gay places to play sports. And remember on many of the listings are straight owned and they want your business tremendously and they too have information on many of the gay activities going on in their city.

People meet in the most unlikeness of places so whether you are searching for the love of your life or just looking to make some new friends, this might be something you might enjoy. Why gold or tennis with a straight person when you could be playing with a gay ?

And if you are into sports you should be able to do some google searching on them as well. And do not limit yourself to sports. Bird watching, stamp collecting, coin collecting and lots of other groups enjoy getting together.

On another subject, we are so proud of the thousands of gays who are in AA groups. Wherever we are staying in resorts there are usually guys who are in AA and they religiously attend meetings everyday. In most major cities there are even special AA groups just for gays. Keep up the fabulous work that you are doing guys !

Always remember to have fun when traveling, meet new people and talk to everyone!
