Gay Day at the Zoo Salt Lake CityThe fourth annual Gay Day at the Zoo will be May 14 and attendance is expected to be higher than ever. The event is organized by the Gay Escape, a safe and social environment for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

“The event is for everybody,” said Dan Nichols, the Gay Escape vice president. “We do an activity every month and we wanted to have one that was really family-friendly that everybody can enjoy. This isn’t just for gay men. It’s for friends, allies and family.”

The group will have members at the zoo all day, but it officially starts at 1 p.m. and a group photo will be taken near the entrance at 3 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear red so that everyone can recognize who is involved with the event.
