The Georgia Waterfall Trail – 2TravelDads

The Georgia Waterfall Trail - 2TravelDads

Okay, we made this name up, but it’s a thing now. There are so many breathtaking waterfalls in North Georgia, we need to share how you can easily visit as many waterfalls as fit into your travel schedule. We’ll start in the east and head west as we go, but you can plan your adventure however you like.

We stayed in Clarksville, Georgia for our most recent trip around North Georgia. It’s a cute town right at the edge of the Appalachians and is perfect for a homebase for a North Georgia outdoors adventure.

The first of the Georgia waterfall trail that we’re directing you to is Toccoa Falls. About twenty minutes from Clarksville, the town is small, but cute. Toccoa Falls itself is actually located on the campus of an evangelical Christian college, but all are welcome to visit the falls. There is an entry fee for non-students and non-alumni, but it’s only a few dollars and to get to do a nice, short hike and enjoy the falls, it’s worth it.

Fernbank Museum of Natural History: Atlanta’s Dinosaur Museum – 2TravelDads

Fernbank Museum of Natural History - 2TravelDads

We visit Atlanta quite a bit since we have family in Georgia, and we’re always looking for new things to do with the kids. On this last trip, we finally got to visit a dinosaur museum: Atlanta’s Fernbank Museum of Natural History. It was the perfect addition to a family trip to Atlanta.

After six or seven trips we’re always looking for something new, so it’s refreshing to find dinosaurs in Atlanta. The Fernbank Museum is more than dinosaurs though, and we loved it all!

Locale of the Fernbank Museum

There are actually a few really cool sites in the proximity of the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Between downtown Atlanta and the Fernbank there is the MLK National Historic Site and Sweet Auburn neighborhood, Piedmont Park, and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. There is also the Path, a long interurban trail for biking, running and walking, connecting the Druid Hills area to downtown.

Los Robles, LLC – Savannah, Georgia

Los Robles, LLC

Periodically we’ll feature one of our properties here to let our readers know about some great gay friendly places to stay:

Los Robles was built in 1905 by a rice baron and has weathered many lives since the family left the house in the 1950’s. Richard & Robert bought the house in 2003 and named it Los Robles (Spanish for The Oaks).

They began hosting guests in December, 2010 and today Los Robles has three bedrooms for guests (two queen bedrooms and one king bedroom) that share two baths on the second floor.

The first floor offers guests a large parlor living room and a smaller library for relaxation and reading, a grand dining room and a front palazzo to enjoy the outside. Kitchen facilities are not available to guests.

Savannah, GA (1733) is probably the most beautiful historic small city in the United States. Los Robles (1905) is a historic residence in the Victorian/Thomas Square district of downtown Savannah, just 1.7 miles from River Street and the Savannah River. Between Los Robles and the river you can explore Forsyth Park and the Landmark Historic District laid out in a logical grid of over 20 squares. The only city in the world designed this way.

Savannah offers many varied restaurants and drinking establishments (Savannah is the Hostess City of the South), great shopping and you may carry your drink on the streets between stops. Trolly tours, carriage tours, bike and walking tours of the city’s history and sights are always available as well as many ghost tours (Savannah is the most haunted city in the USA). A stay of at least two to three days is recommended to take in the full beauty and charm of Savannah.

Come and immerse yourself in a city of history, beautiful architecture, Live Oak tress dripping with Spanish Moss and Southern Hospitality at Los Robles.

Tripping through Tbilisi

Tbilisi If I had a coin for every time I explained I was traveling to Georgia The Republic of, not the US state I’d be a wealthy man. Admittedly, to many Westerners it’s not high on the bucket list, overshadowed by higher-profile neighbours Turkey and Russia. But following a invitation from a friend to visit him in his newly-rented apartment in Tbilisi, I felt instantly curious and torn. It’s legal to be gay in Georgia, but the country is so entrenched in Orthodox Christianity that LGBTI people are often victims of abuse and violence. When it comes to where queer travelers in the West choose to vacation, many of us vote with our wallets, supporting the economies of well-catalogued gay-friendly destinations, such as Sitges or Mykonos. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Girl's Weekend in Savannah, Georgia

Photo courtesy of VisitHistoricSavannah.com Photo courtesy of VisitHistoricSavannah.com[/caption]What would you do if you had less than 48 hours in a city you’ve never visited before? Oh, and 28 of those hours are dedicated to an organization you adore. If you’re like me, you vow to give your best at the meetings, soak in as much as you can when you’re free – and save sleeping for the flight home. A weekend trip to Savannah with girlfriends proved there’s a whole lot to do in this sweet southern belle of a city. Thankfully, the ladies I travel with live by my philosophy and we packed in a lot of fun during our short time together. If you’re considering a trip to Savannah, feel free to follow our 7-step plan to discovering Savannah. Step 1 Leave home as early as possible so you’ll arrive in time to enjoy lunch on River Street in the Historic District. While it may mean dragging yourself out of bed at the crack of stupid, you’ll be thankful to have a full day ahead of you when you land.
