A Madrid Sunset – Keep Calm and Wander

Madrid Sunset You can view Madrid sunset from the terrazas Circulo Las Bellas Artes. But let me say that this is not really the highest place to watch sunset in the city. The building isn’t really tall enough to see the city’s panoramic view. With an open bar and comfortable mattresses to sit on (or lay down), you can’t complain. Well, the only thing I complained about was the €4 charge when you go up there. The food and the drinks aren’t cheap either. On a busy summer afternoon, it’s hard to get the waiter’s attention. So, after a glass of red vino, I was done. I couldn’t wait for another 15 minutes for the next glass. Instead, I walked around and took these shots.

Gay Greece: An Endless Summer

Gay Greece - Flickr - Pedro Flickr – Pedro[/caption] A staggering 26.5 million people visited Greece in 2015 – making it the ninth most-visited country in Europe. And in 2016, the Cradle of Civilisation looks set to beat its own record. Not bad for a country that’s suffered a lot of negative press in recent years. And while thriving tourism provides the Hellenic Republic a wonderful beating pulse, it’s not its only blessing. Staggering landscapes, fascinating history and hospitable locals aside, let’s be very British a moment. We need to talk about the weather. Because Greece really does enjoy the best of both worlds. Sun abounds throughout the year – but temperatures fluctuate enough to make each season feel unique.

Girlfriend Getaway – Downtown Napa

Downtown Napa While the grape vines are settling in for a few months’ rest, Downtown Napa is definitely not. Napa’s vibrant downtown scene is hidden in plain sight in one of the world’s best wine regions. All you need is 48 hours, a girlfriend or two, sunglasses for day and a warm wrap for evening, plus a big appetite for fun, adventure and fantastic food, wine…and even craft beer. The Napa Backstory Start at Vermeil Wines owned by NFL Super Bowl winning coach Dick Vermeil. We had a personal welcome from the (female!) mayor, which was just too cool for school. Eleven years in the job and running for re-election unopposed, Mayor Jill Techel has seen Napa transformed to a city of 80,000. She points out that re-routing the river to create nature wetlands and re-building after an earthquake has a way of cementing people as well as things. No kidding, everybody here seems to know — and genuinely like — each other. Forget the car; take a stroll along historic Riverside Park or follow a section of the new Napa Valley Vine Trail on a bike. The river cuts a swathe through the middle of historic downtown that at times resembles the Seine more than Northern California.

Chocolateria de San Gines – Keep Calm and Wander

Chocolateria de San Gines Google a place on where to eat churros in Madrid and there’s one that stands out: Chocolateria de San Gines. It’s in an alley so it would be a bit difficult to find. But if you ask the locals around Puerta del Sol, they know where it is. It’s a cafe both popular to the tourists and the locals. I found this place on my second day in the city but I didn’t get in because the queue was insane! I’m impatient when I’m hungry. So, when I met up with my fab friend who I’ve never seen for years, we decided to check this cafe out. And as expected, we did line up but not for long. The only table we could get was the one in the basement. It was ok – the walls were surrounded with mirrors so, I felt pretty.

Gay Puerto Vallarta: A Perennial Favorite

Gay Puerto Vallarta Brought into the tourism spotlight by famous Hollywood celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, and offering a broad range of gay bars and nightclubs, gay-owned restaurants, hotels, stores, services, and entertainment that established the destination in a league of its own, it is no wonder Puerto Vallarta has been a favorite among LGBT travelers for decades. In recent years, the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board, the entity responsible for promoting the destination in the US and Canada has partnered with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, GMHC and the International Gay Lesbian Travel Association to promote the destination to the LGBT market. In 2014, Puerto Vallarta became the first Mexican destination to participate in a World Pride with its Noche Alegre event during the World Pride celebrations in Toronto; and in 2015 the tourism board became the first destination to sponsor the Human Rights Campaign on a national level.

Dubai Gay Bars

Dubai Gay Bars SPEAKERS boom in the darkly lit, smoky room. It’s 2 am and the club is packed with a sea of sweaty, gay men getting their groove on to a Madonna classic — and I’m one of them. After an all-day drinking session, followed by a spot of impromptu karaoke, during which I made friends with a lovely lesbian couple (we bonded over our love of ‘80s power ballads) I’ve ended up at this underground hotspot. Nothing strange here you might think, I mean, there are gay clubs the world over, right? But what makes this unusual is that I’m not in the relatively liberal West; I’m in Dubai. A province of the United Arab Emirates governed by a dictatorial royal family and a tourism hotspot attracting the gaze of the world thanks to its constant sunshine and headline-grabbing world’s “biggest” and “tallest” buildings, shopping malls and man-made islands. Like Las Vegas, Dubai was built in a desert from nothing and like Vegas, Dubai (in the Arab world anyway) is known as sin city.
