gay honeymoon - the Philippines - The Globetrotter Guys

Deciding on the perfect gay honeymoon destination when we got married in 2017 was difficult to say the least. You want to go somewhere beautiful, a once in a lifetime destination where you can openly be yourselves and enjoy the first few weeks of married life together.

The last thing that you want to experience on your gay honeymoon is any form of discrimination or prejudice, which is why it can be tricky to find that perfect place. Many of the stereotypical ‘go to’ honeymoon destinations such as the Maldives or Mauritius aren’t safe for gay couples. In these places same-sex activity is actually illegal, with severe consequences, and that’s not something you ever want to have to worry about, let alone on your honeymoon.

However, after lots of research we did find the perfect gay honeymoon destination for us: the Philippines!

It ticked every single box for us. Stunning beaches, perfect turquoise waters for scuba diving, lots of islands to explore, and a great mix of adventure and relaxation. Plus there are lots of romantic places in the Philippines making it perfect for honeymooners! Taking into account that the Philippines has been ranked as one of the most gay friendly places in Asia, we knew we were onto a winner.

We spent three weeks in the Philippines – one week on the island of Cebu (Mactan Island), one week in Palawan (El Nido) and one week in Boracay. Read on to learn everything you need to know. Fair warning – by the end you will want to book a flight right away!

Where to Go for Your Gay Honeymoon – Pink News

Honeymoon - 123rf

A travel agency has compiled a ranking of best countries for couples on their gay honeymoon. The Latin America Travel Company evaluated global destinations according to six LGBT-focused criteria, each graded out of five points, to determine a country’s LGBT Honeymoon Ranking.

No country scored the top mark of 30 points, but two came very close. Canada and New Zealand top the ranking, each of them scoring top marks for the criteria honeymoon popularity, LGBT travel friendly, marriage equality, forward thinking and romantic setting.

The ranking only included countries that have decriminalised homosexuality, which remains illegal in more than 70 countries or territories around the world.

No Asian country was included in the ranking, despite the recent decriminalisation of homosexuality in India, and only one country in the African continent, South Africa, made the list of best countries for gay couples on honeymoon.

Argentina topped the list for destinations in South America. “We were thrilled to see Argentina rank in the top 20,” commented the travel agency responsible for the ranking, which specialises in travels to Latin America.

Ten Gay Honeymoon Hotspots

Cape Town, South Africa - Apple Maps

Gay couples can now legally marry in 18 countries — a statistic that increasingly raises an important question: Where’s the best spot for a gay honeymoon? More and more destinations are now catering to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) travelers.

John Tanzella, chief executive of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, says it’s an encouraging trend, but he worries there’s a risk of gay vacationers being targeted as a “niche.” “When you’re planning that dream trip it’s still important to work with travel professionals who understand the needs of gay travelers as individuals,” he adds. Among travel organizations that seem to be getting the message is the Association of British Travel Agents, which is the latest to compile a list of destinations offering same-sex honeymooners a friendly atmosphere and catering to a broad range of tastes.

Here’s its 10.

Cape Town, South Africa: The dramatic backdrop of Table Mountain rises above this gorgeous city bathed in almost year-round sunshine. It’s a great place to relax for a couple of days, then travel out to the numerous wineries in the lush green countryside close to the city. Where else can you see penguins sunning themselves on a beach?

How I Almost Cancelled My Big Lesbian Arizona Honeymoon

Author: , March 1st, 2014

Christy and MichelleOn June 26, 2013, when the Supreme Court made its historic decision regarding the Defense of Marriage Act, I sent a text to Michelle, my partner of 15 years, “You want to get legally hitched?” She responded, “Is that your way of proposing? Where’s my diamond?” We were joking, but not. We were both at work, laughing through the tears at our desks, trying to focus on our respective jobs.

I had always said that we’d be old by the time we could legally get married. “They’re going to have to wheel me down the aisle,” I’d tell people, smiling despite the reality that we live in a country where discrimination, in so many forms, is legal.

That afternoon, I made a tentative guest list but didn’t mention it to Michelle. When I woke up the next morning, I saw that Michelle had created a pinterest board filled with wedding dresses. On the night of June 27, we called our parents and made a facebook announcement. “On April 26, she’ll make an honest woman out of me,” was Michelle’s post. We set the wedding date for the twelfth anniversary of our commitment ceremony.
