Casitas LazDivaz Beachfront B&C - Lesbian Owned Bed & Breakfast in Sámara, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

BEACH CASITAS UNDER THE RAINBOW FLAG

Playa Samara: a four-kilometer stretch of gorgeous beach on the Pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula, a National Geographic-designated Blue Zone, one of five areas in the world where people live longer, healthier, and happier lives than anywhere else on this planet.

Welcome to Casitas LazDivaz B&C, and experience the Rainbow Zone!

Enter our adults-only oasis through our whimsical driftwood gate, under the billowing rainbow flag, and find yourself in a serene tropical garden, where we celebrate diversity, welcoming guests from all walks of life.

Shaded by a full canopy of mature, indigenous trees teeming with wildlife, Casitas LazDivaz is a secluded compound of three cozy, private stand-alone cabins, outside of busy Samara Center, yet still within a five-minute beach stroll to the restaurants, shops, and entertainment in the lively Costa Rican village. Upon arrival, we will give you our annotated map to lead you to the activities and restaurants that we recommend.

Casitas LazDivaz was conceived, designed, and lovingly built at the turn of the century by a couple of lesbian dreamers—an architect from Munich and a graphic designer from Boston. The European-standard construction is complemented by distinct, hand-crafted furniture and fixtures throughout. Your comfort is our priority: the queen-size bed has an orthopedic mattress and high-count cotton sheets; ceiling fans supplement the ventilation in the breezy, open-air design; and the strong shower rains unlimited hot water. Two casitas, Marlene Dietrich and Farinelli, each have a small refrigerator. WiFi is available throughout the premises.

Casita Tina Turner has a kitchen, with fridge, stove, microwave, toaster oven, blender, and all necessary utensils. Tina is larger than the other two, and is the most private, with an elevated porch that overlooks the garden.

Eco-Friendly Costa Rica is Gay Friendly Too

eco-friendly costa rica - advocate

If there’s one thing Costa Ricans value above all else, it’s community. Pura vida is more than a friendly motto written on hats or T-shirts for tourists to buy at souvenir shops. Directly translated as “pure life,” it is closer to American ideas of the “simple life.” And in Costa Rica, the concept is part of their heritage and runs deep in the soil. The phrase is a reminder to not sweat the small stuff and instead focus on things that matter: friends, family, and most importantly, love.

In a country that’s home to five million people and nearly a thousand species of birds—including two of my favorites, the keelbilled toucan and the scarlet macaw — pura vida permeates through every experience you have. Whether you’re staying at a fancy resort or hiking on a crowded trail, you’ll find pura vida is a shared human language that transcends differences and unites those who embrace it.

For many LGBTQ people living in Costa Rica, social norms have noticeably shifted in recent years, thanks to wider visibility in smaller communities. While the country is widely known for its environmental efforts (embracing eco-tourism early) and lack of an army (the nation instead chooses to invest its money in agriculture) and Catholic traditions, citizens are still hungry for social progress.

Queer Costa Rica – The Globetrotter Guys

Queer Costa Rica - The Globetrotter Guys

Costa Rica is a country that had been on our bucket list for a long time. With what we knew about the place, and feedback from friends that had visited, we had some very high hopes! However, we didn’t need to be worried. Costa Rica exceeded our expectations in every possible way!

Costa Rica boasts the highest density of biodiversity worldwide. Despite being such a small country, almost 5 percent of all animal and plant species are found here. It also offers some of the best adventure activities, such as hiking, ziplining, or white-water rafting. Or if you simply want to relax, it has both Pacific and Caribbean beaches.

For us, finding the right balance between time and experiences is crucial. Costa Rica has so much to offer, meaning that trying to fit everything in involves a lot of logistics.

We had limited time and a long list of things we wanted to do. For this trip, we decided it would be nice to let someone else take over the reins and do all the planning for us. We contacted Destination Costa Rica and after learning they were wanting to expand their offerings to the LGBT community, we thought they would be the perfect fit.

They offered us a completely tailor-made package from start to finish based on our personal requirements. We had already made arrangements to stay at certain gay-friendly properties in Manuel Antonio and San Jose. Destination Costa Rica factored this in – not booking accommodation for these nights but still assisting with our transport needs and arranging our excursions.

Booking with Destination Costa Rica meant not having to think or spend time planning what we were to do in Costa Rica. They organised everything from our accommodation, to transportation and all our activities and experiences.
