Charming Queer Quebec – Passport Magazine

“The city is romantic, it offers a wide variety of fine restaurants, has a European flair, and, most importantly, both visitors and residents find an openness of mind, an acceptance of differences.”

We started to get nervous as a burly police officer gave us that I’m-about-to-walk-over eye. My boyfriend and I were taking a quick-kiss selfie in front of Québec City’s Fontaine de Tourny. He steps over in unison with the banging of drums from a First Nations’ festival happening across the street at Parc de l’Esplanade.

“Hey guys, let me take that photo for you,” he says, in a deep Québec accent. We pose. I wrap my arm around Jason, but keep him at justfriends length.

“Come on,” he says. “Give him another kiss, act like you like each other,” he laughs while holding up the phone and crouching like a mom taking a picture of her kids before they leave for the first day of school.

We give one another a big kiss, the officer takes the snap, and then he gives us a gentle wave goodbye. “Happy pride,” he says walking back to the festival gates.

Both of us were in somewhat of a shock by the incident and had to take a minute to discuss what just happened. Being from New York, we are programed to be suspicious of strangers, never mind a cop approaching us. It was so sweet that we savored the scenario as we stood by the cascading fountain waters.

Romantic, Gay Toronto – The Nomadic Boys

Romantic, Gay Toronto - The Nomadic Boys

Toronto is an exciting city in Canada to visit. It has over 40 million visitors each year, and is home to 8,100 restaurants and bars. This is one of the most diverse places on our planet, with over 180 languages and dialects spoken.

Toronto is also a very fun place to come as a couple. We loved discovering the many touristic sites here, especially the CN Tower and the massive aquarium. Following our visit, we’ve put together our 5 favourite romantic things to do in Toronto to inspire your trip.

Romantic Dinner at the CN Tower

The CN Tower is one of the most iconic buildings in the city. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, and when adding in the height of its antenna on top, it’s the tallest freestanding structure in the western hemisphere, standing proud at 553m/1,815ft. It was built in the 1960s by the Canadian National Railway (CN) because they wanted a communications tower tall enough so that any radio or TV communications from it would not be obstructed by the many other high-rise buildings in the city.

As well as being able to visit the tower for the best views across the city, it also has a revolving restaurant to dine at. We had one of our favourite romantic meals here at the tower’s 360 The Restaurant. The food is delicious, with a mix of fresh sea food, steaks and other local classics. Definitely one for a special occasion.

Queer Toronto: Five Must-See Events – The Nomadic Boys

Queer Toronto - The Nomadic Boys

Toronto is one of the most exciting gay destinations in Canada. It has an awesome gay scene, and like the gay events in Montreal, it also has its fair share of gay events taking place each year.

These are our 5 best gay events in Toronto you should consider checking out and planning your trip around.

FEBRUARY IN QUEER TORONTO: Rhubarb Festival

The Rhubarb Festival is Canada’s longest-running new works festival, taking place at the awesome Buddies in Bad Times theatre in the gay village of Toronto. It is a 10 days festival every February, which started in 1979. It has since grown from strength to strength each year, and is today funded partly by the government, partly by private sponsors.Rhubarb is a festival where artists explore new possibilities in theatre, dance, music, and performance art. This is the place to come and see the most adventurous ideas in performance. During the festival there are around 3/4 shows taking place, and no two nights of Rhubarb are ever alike.  For more information, check out the Rhubarb archive on the Buddies in Bad Times website.

Gay Toronto Clubs and Bars – The Nomadic Boys

Gay Toronto Clubs and Bars - The Nomadic Boys

We love the scene in gay Toronto. It is home to Canada’s largest gay community and welcomes visitors from all walks of life.

Just like the gay scene of Montreal, the gay village of Toronto is huge. It is located at the intersection of Church and Wellesley Streets, and therefore nicknamed the “Church and Wellesley Village”. This is where the majority of the best gay bars, clubs, restaurants, cafes and clothing stores can be found. It is also ground zero for the annual Pride week in the summer, which is one of the largest pride festivals in the world.

These are our 5 favourite gay Toronto bars and clubs, which you can also check out in our vlog about gay Toronto at the end of this article.

Woody’s

Woody’s is an institution in Toronto. From the outside it looks like 2 separate bars: Woody’s and Sailor’s. Inside, they connect and merge as one. This iss the staple go-to bar to start the night, with some of the funniest drag shows in town. It’s been around since 1989 making it the first bar in the village.

We love their “best” competitions on the weekends like best chest and best ass, where contestants are judged and winners based on who gets the loudest applause from the audience.

Gay Vancouver Island for Romance – The Nomadic Boys

Gay Vancouver Island for Romance - The Nomadic Boys

Vancouver Island is a fabulous place for a romantic weekend getaway in British Colombia – Canada’s westernmost province. Despite the name, it’s actually far from Vancouver downtown and involves either a short plane ride, or car/ferry ride to reach it. We came here for a weekend retreat during our trip in Vancouver and completely fell in love. There are many highly rated restaurants, beautiful sceneries to explore, and even a few wineries to check out. Yup – Canadian wine is a thing!

Following our trip, we’ve put together our 5 favourite romantic things to do in Vancouver Island, which we hope will inspire your trip. Please note the island is huge, and we only saw a glimpse of it, so there are of course many many more things one can embellish this list with!

The Hydropath at the Pacific Mist Spa

One of the most relaxing things we did as a couple on Vancouver Island is the Hydropath circuit at the Kingfisher hotel. We chose it because every local we asked for tips on what to do in Vancouver Island, suggested this. This is a guided circuit in what feels like an underwater sea cave. The circuit took us around various wellness pools including a mineral massage pool, waterfall massage, steam cave, tidal bath and more. Our favourite was the final bath, which included a sand and seaweed body scrub, presented on a large scallop shell.

24 Hours in Queer Winnipeg – Travel Pulse

Winnipeg is a delightful city and a surprisingly queer-friendly destination that’s not on the radar of many Americans. But what if a queer traveler had a single day to sample its pleasures? What would be at the top of the list? Matt Schaubroeck, Corporate Communications Specialist for Tourism Winnipeg, gave us some pointers.

“There’s always so much to do in Winnipeg—we’re a four-season city filled with attractions, restaurants and entertainment that’s sure to have something for everyone to enjoy,” said Schaubroeck. “I’d recommend starting at The Forks, where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet. You’ll find one of Winnipeg’s best tourist attractions there, featuring bike rentals in the summer or skate rentals in the winter. You can take the river trail (when it’s cold, one of the world’s longest winter skating trails) throughout the heart of the city including our French district, St. Boniface and our architecturally stunning Exchange District.”

The city doesn’t have one specific “gayborhood,” as queer residents and businesses are somewhat uniformly spread out among the larger city.

Gay Vancouver for Romance – The Nomadic Boys

Gay Vancouver for Romance - The Nomadic Boys

Vancouver is a diverse, bustling city on the west coast of Canada in the British Columbia province. It’s gorgeous because on the one side you have the ocean breeze and on the other side, the city is surrounded by snow capped mountains. Nature is everywhere here.

The downtown central part of Vancouver is an excellent base for couples to visit, with many highly rated hotels, restaurants and bars. We loved the gay scene of Vancouver, as well as the range of activities you can do during the day. These are our 5 favourite romantic things to do in Vancouver, which we loved, and most importantly, you can do throughout the year.

Evening stroll along the Vancouver waterfront

The waterfront area of Vancouver was our favourite spot. It the perfect place to come for an evening stroll and watch the sea planes take off/land on the water. We also loved the city views here because of the mountain backdrop.

When strolling the waterfront, be sure to check out another favourite landmark of ours – the iconic blue raindrop statue called The Drop. The official explanation of this sculpture is that it is meant to pay homage to the power of nature, particularly water, which surrounds the city. We also love the unofficial explanation by locals that it is more of a celebration of the high amount of rainfall in Vancouver.

Gay Whistler – The Nomadic Boys

Gay Whistler - The Nomadic Boys

What do you get when you mix together a bunch of gay boys, a giant rainbow flag and a huge pile of Canadian snow? The Whistler Pride and Ski Festival of course!

We were very excited to attend the 26th annual Whistler Pride week in January 2018. We love skiing, especially gay ski festivals as they always have the best parties.

Where is Whistler?

Whistler is a small town north of Vancouver in the British Columbia province of Canada. It’s famous for having one of the largest ski resorts in North America and for hosting some of the events of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

The town is surrounded by two mountains: Whistler (2,184m/7,165ft) and Blackcomb (2,436m/7992ft). There are over 200 marked ski trails in between the two mountains, catering to all difficulty levels: green for beginners, blue for intermediate, black for advanced and double blacks for people who are just plain mad!

The Whistler Pride and Ski Festival is one of the biggest and best LGBTQ ski events in North America. We absolutely loved it and highly recommend it to all gay travellers seeking out a gay ski event to attend. To show you just how awesome it was, here are our 5 amazing things to do during the Whistler Pride week.

Watch our weekend in Toronto as we set out to discover the gay scene and the nightlife. We went to gay bars like Woody’s, which have the best drag shows, and we danced at awesome gay clubs like Fly. We also had a yummy brunch at Lola’s Kitchen. All of these places are located in Toronto’s gay village.

We also did some sightseeing in Toronto, such as the CN Tower and the huge Aquarium.
