That Time We Almost Got Arrested in Delhi – Nomadic Boys

Nomadic Boys Don’t get us wrong, we absolutely fell in love with India. But its government just has major problems accepting its LGBT community. A very old law dating back to 1861 (Article 377 of the Indian Penal Code) criminalises gay sex with up to 10 years in prison. This was invalidated by the Delhi High Court in 2009, but in 2013, the Supreme Court reintroduced Article 377. In January 2016, the Supreme Court announced it would review this decision, but until this is done, being gay in India remains a crime. We couldn’t find any evidence of Article 377 being enforced, but its very existence is a symbolic slap in the face to the LGBT community. We interviewed a gay Indian couple anonymously who said that Article 377 is used by the authorities as a validation for all sorts of bullying and harassment of the LGBT community, in particular the Indian police who use it as a way to get bribes. We experienced this first hand in Delhi.

Sydney Mardi Gras: Decadence Defined

Sydney Mardi Gras Photo / Destination New South Wales[/caption] Dramatic drag queens and droll drag kings. Bears (the hairy-male type), bogans and Bananas in Pyjamas. Grooving and gyrating mer-drags, macho muscle Mary’s and minx-y mistresses. Sinewy prancers, dancers, hula-hoopers and hedonists in harnesses. With such decadence and debauchery, it could only be Sydney Mardi Gras – the annual glittering gem of a pride event that showcases the diversity of Sydney’s LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) communities. Now in its 38th year, Mardi Gras marks a high point in Sydney’s social calendar and holds its own as an internationally recognised celebration of equality, passion and freedom. Borne from a rocky start, this much-loved parade originally began as a protest. Following years of hiding their sexuality, a group of around 1000 men and women took to Sydney’s inner-city streets on Saturday June 24, 1978, to march for the recognition of their rights. Despite the peaceful intentions of those who protested, the police reaction was violent, and many arrests were made.

9 Mobile Apps for the Gay Traveller – Nomadic Boys

Stef-Seb-9-apps-for-gay-travellers-iphone-and-non-iphone After our 18 months trip in Asia, we put together our 9 favourite mobile apps for gay travellers. They aren’t all gay, but simply the apps we grew to depend on every day whether it was for booking flights, hotels, planning, networking or socialising. Our pink friendly apps for the gay traveller are all available in the iPhone app store and some for non-iPhones, but you can still use the mobile friendly version of their website.

#1 SKYSCANNER

Skyscanner is our #1 resource for researching flights and finding the best deals online. They also have a very user friendly app. We like Skyscanner because of all the flight search engines we’ve used, we’ve found it has the widest variety of flight operators, including budget ones like Air Asia and Easyjet, thereby maximising your options. We also like the way the search results show you the cheapest prices for each month and then each day. This allows you to select the most cost effective flight around your schedule.

Beach Day in San Juan

Puerto Rico - Gareth Johnson It seems kind of obvious when you live on a warm, tropical island, but on Sundays the San Juan locals of Puerto Rico go to the beach. Large groups of friends, big extended families, all get together with their beach chairs, coolers full of food and beer, and they spend their day relaxing, talking, playing beach tennis (with the wooden bats), and occasionally going for a swim. Ocean Park Beach in the Condado neighbourhood is the busiest, I sat for hours watching fiercely contested beach tennis matches between young guys with lean, muscular bodies and perfect tans. It made me wish that I’d been a bit more committed to that beach body bikini blast workout that I signed up for.

Puerto Rico – A Winter Mini Break

Puerto Rico Image via Puerto Rico Tourism Authority[/caption] Living in London, the winter months are inevitably cold, wet, dark, and seem to drag on for ever. Most people try and break up the long winter with either a skiing holiday to Europe, or by escaping to somewhere a bit warmer and sunnier for a mid-winter vacation. As I was queuing for the bag drop counters at Gatwick Airport, surrounded by excited groups of people wrapped in huge coats and carrying enormous piles of luggage, I was feeling a little smug that my chosen destination this winter was Puerto Rico. It’s a solid eight-hour flight from London to Puerto Rico, so you need to be looking at staying for at least a week to make the journey worthwhile. I flew with Norwegian Airlines – a direct flight that was simple and efficient in typical Nordic style.
