Barcelona is well-beloved for its beaches and is recognised globally for how incredible they are. In fact, National Geographic has listed it as the number one best beach city in the world.

Whilst only two out of Barcelona’s beaches are considered officially “gay”, we found that every single one we went to is gay-friendly. The official gay beaches of Barcelona are San Sebastian and Mar Bella. However, there are a few others to check out, particularly as you head into Sitges.

Australia is a paradise.

Well, spiders aside, it is.

Their beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world, with golden sand and sapphire seas just moments from the cultural centers of their cities. They all happen to be populate by hottest people on Earth too. It’s perfect: you just have to avoid a jellyfish here and there.
But as with most things in this world, the way to make those sandy paradises even better is to make it gay. So while it’s summer in the southern hemisphere, strip down and check out all the clothing-optional and gay beaches in Australia.

North Bondi Beach

You have to stress the north in this Australia gay beach because the further you travel in that direction, the gayer it gets. While Bondi Beach proper is for families, head to the right section and you’ll find other gay people, many of whom choose to sunbathe naked. This is probably the most famous beach, so it’s going to be busy.

Drinking is prohibited on the beach annoyingly, but there are plenty of bars on the strip running alongside it. Just make sure you put some clothes on.

Jon Jackson and his husband Sandy Miller thought twice before buying Palm Springs’ gay, clothing-optional resort INNdulge in 2010. But little did they know what an amazing experience running the 31-room hotel would be.

Think midnight pool parties, making new friends from around the world, and spending their days in one of the US’s most amazing cities. Palm Springs is of course known for its huge LGBTI population, super cool art deco stylings and 300 days of sunshine a year.

‘We had this bad taste in our mouths,’ says Sandy, over Skype from the South California town now he calls home (both Jon and Sandy are originally from North Carolina). ‘We’d previously moved to San Francisco to save this restaurant we’d invested in. We ended up there for 18 months. It was miserable. Running a restaurant is a horrible business! When we came to purchase the hotel, there was this nagging doubt.’

Italy is a hotbed for some of the finest men in the world who just love to bare it all at one of the country’s many gorgeous beaches.

After checking out the best gay beaches in Europe, we wanted to discover more from the Italian perspective, so we teamed up with the guys at GayFriendlyItaly.com to showcase the 5 best gay nude beaches in Italy.

One thing to note with regards to public nudity in Italy is that although it is officially illegal, in 2006 nude tanning was legalised in designated areas so you should be fine in the places we list below.

Lecciona beach in Tuscany
Lecciona beach is the most popular gay beach in Italy. It is part of the natural park of Migliarino, San Rossore and Massaciuccoli.

The beach is stunning. We love it because not only is it a sandy beach (most tend to be pebbly or rocky), but it is surrounded by a gorgeous pine forest. This also makes it quite private, hence why it’s a popular spot for nudists.

Bear in mind there are no establishments here. To reach it you have to walk at least 10-15 minutes through the pinewood and sand dunes, so bring all your food, water etc with you.
