Mexico’s classic gay travel destination, Puerto Vallarta lures the LGBT community with ritzy beach clubs, budget-friendly hotels and animated gay nightlife. This small city is a frequent choice for Americans and Canadians, especially in winter.
Before visiting Puerto Vallarta, I never fully understood what specifically makes this destination so attractive to gay men. Gay friends and acquaintances of mine always raved about Puerto Vallarta. I quickly found out why.
Puerto Vallarta is so popular because the city is quite conducive to groups of gay travelers. The gay scene here is physically compact. This makes things super easy for friends to coordinate plans.
The Puerto Vallarta Gay Area
The Puerto Vallarta gay area starts in Zona Romántica and continues southward to the border of the Amapas neighborhood. Most of the gay-friendly establishments and nightlife is within the five or so city blocks from the waterfront.
I highly recommend staying in the Puerto Vallarta gay area. It’s convenient and you’ll never run out of things to do. Furthermore, meeting up with friends should easier here since there are so many hotel and resort options in close proximity. You’ll have tons of options for restaurants, shopping and beach clubs, all within a 5-minute walk.

PV Delice wishes to communicate the positive resolution of the tragic event on December 31, 2020, in relation to the sinking of one of our gay party boat cruises in Puerto Vallarta, where fortunately there were no injured lives or health problems to regret. The PV Delice Cruise company thanks the competent authorities for their support, also the crew for their great professionalism, the media for keeping the citizens and of course our clients informed in a timely manner for their trust and understanding.
Please note that many news articles are incorrectly reporting the sinking ship was chartered by Jeffrey Sanker of White Party Palm Springs. Please use this article as confirmation that Jeffrey Sanker of White Party PV did not charter the ship that sank December 31, 2020 in Puerto Vallarta. PV Delice who chartered it is a separate weekly boat cruise tour that operates in Puerto Vallarta that is in no way affiliated with Jeffrey Sanker and White Party PV.
Puerto Vallarta local event producers Christian Serrano & Dhaniel Amarillas have created a fun and frisky weekend in gay Puerto Vallarta known as “Bearadise®”. Dedicated to the creation of unique and memorable experiences, they successfully created an event aimed exclusively for the gay male market, specifically the bear community, friends and admirers.
When the COVID pandemic turned our gay travel world upside down, they were faced with the challenge of resetting and reclaiming this concept in order to fall in line with our new normal. “As a sustainable and socially responsible labor of love, we were forced to take inventory of the Bearadise® brand and determine how to evolve in a safe way during this time of ‘physical distancing’ and ‘safe socializing’ with the wellbeing of our guests as the #1 priority,” Serrano muses. Our solution? Bearadise® Beach! A full day, all-inclusive tour open air-experience designed for Bears, by Bears, but all men are welcome!”

Gay rights in Puerto Vallarta
Mexico has some pretty progressive LGBTQ laws. Homosexuality was decriminalised as early as 1871 during its brief French occupation, and a wide range of anti-discrimination laws were introduced in 2003. It’s also slowly heading towards full gay marriage equality.
In relation to the Jalisco Province, where Puerto Vallarta is based, gay marriage was legalised in March 2016 following an unanimous decision by the Supreme Court of Mexico that the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. As a result, the offending law was quickly revoked and as of 20 April 2016, gay weddings were allowed to take place.
