48 Hours in Gay Budapest

Gay Budapest Cradled by the undulating curves of the Danube, the Hungarian capital has changed beyond recognition over the past decade. The city carries a heavy history of occupations, sieges, conflicts, revolutions and uprisings. But today it’s one of the most desirable European destinations for young people studying, working and holidaying. Here’s our guide to 48 hours in gay Budapest. When you’re in town for a few days, there’s really no time to waste in getting to know the city. Companies like Underguide offer a variety of tours that can act as crash courses on various different aspects of the city’s history and culture. They tailor-make tours to fit all different tastes and interests, on themes like communism, art nouveau, Jewish culture and cakes. My lovely tour guide Orsi versed me in Budapest’s complex history and its visible relics around the city. For example, the first bridge over the Danube built in 1849, named after István Széchenyi [above]; the 96m tall Basilica [below] built in 1905, where St Stephen’s mummified hand lies.

Gay Gothenburg, Sweden

Gay Gothenburg Image by Beatrice Tornros[/caption] Myself and another LGBT journalists were graciously invited by Visit Sweden to attend their West Pride festival, and see how just how different gay life is for the Scandinavians in the welcoming city of Gothenburg. Travelling to Gay Gothenburg It’s 8:30 in the morning, and after two days of less-than-fortuitous encounters with trains, tubes and buses, I am well and truly sick of London transport and ready to get the hell out of this city… At least for a little bit. Sat at Gatwick Airport after clearing security, I get a few moments to sit and watch the melee of stag and hen dos downing glasses of wine before scurrying off to catch their flights to Ibiza, Prague, etc. Classy as ever England, let’s go see how the Swedish do things. My flight was delayed, but then this is Gatwick so it’s no big surprise, but before long I am jetting out on Norwegian Airlines to the second largest city in Sweden.

Bears in Sitges

Sitges Bears Week Easily the biggest gathering of bears in Europe, the annual Bears Week in Sitges drew to a close yesterday after ten days (2-11 September) of furry frolics on the Spanish coast. Sitges Bears Week attracts over 5,000 gay guys during the course of its festivities, and – if anything – is becoming too busy for some return visitors. Hotels and guesthouses get pre-booked months in advance. The majority of visitors are from Europe, but a US bears cruise began docking at the town last year and returned again this year, boosting the US contingent.

Vespa Guide To Getting Laid In Gay Berlin

Gay Berlin Gay travel bloggers Nomadic Boys say Berlin is super gay— and who are we to disagree? But if you want proof, how’s this? Schoneberg has been the heart of the gay Berlin community since the 1920s when it became the first ever gay village. Of course Schoneberg has many gay bars and clubs to choose from — whatever you are into, you’ll find it. Outside of Schoneberg, alternative gay scenes have started to spring up in the East over the past 20 years — particularly Kreuzberg, Neukolln and Friedrichshain. It’s super easy to find popular gay hangouts in these neighborhoods. It’s not all good news in Germany though — while same-sex partnership was legalized in 2001, Germany has yet to legalize same-sex marriage. Surprising, considering recent polls have indicated that a majority of Germans support it. Of course — we know you’re not necessarily looking to get married in Berlin. You want naughty fun — and here’s the best places we’ve found to get laid.

Foodie Fun in Gothenburg, West Sweden

Gothenburg for Foodies The beautiful West Sweden, with Gothenburg as its gateway, is emerging as a hotspot for all things food. It’s gaining an international culinary reputation as the foodie capital of Scandinavia because of its passionate local producers, imaginative chefs and bounty of organic, natural produce. The west coast’s shellfish, in particular its lobster and oysters, are among the best in the world. Visitors can partake in hands-on trips to learn about the West Coast’s seafood, joining local fishermen for unforgettable catch-and-cook experiences. Further inland, the forests also provide a variety of game. Other districts are known for producing fine cheeses. Meanwhile, the fertile agricultural land is ideal for growing fresh produce and raising animals in the best organic tradition.

Interview With Finn Ballard – The Nomadic Boys

Finn Ballard - The Nomadic Boys Queer. A word that used to be used negatively, but now reclaimed by us to form one of the letters in our LGBTQIA umbrella – a word to describe individuals who challenge both gender and sexuality, who see gender identity & sexual orientation as overlapping and interconnected. We met Finn Ballard during our adventures discovering the gay bars of Berlin in Germany who did exactly that. We thought he was just another one of the many gay Bear-liners, until he “came out” to us as a female to male trans. Finn identifies himself as Queer. After meeting our male to female trans friend Regina in Bangkok, we were dead excited to feature Finn’s story right here in his exclusive interview with trans female to male.
