Nea Kameni – Keep Calm and Wander

Nea Kameni - Keep Calm and Wander

Nea Kameni is one of the volcanic islands situated in the Santorini caldera. It’s almost two millennia old and around the caldera, there are many volcanic islands present – active volcanic islands, mind you.

If you’re holidaying in Santorini, you must go for a day trip to the surrounding islands. Find a tour agency that brings you not just to one island, but two or more. This is what we did – and Nea Kameni was our first stop of the island hopping day tour.

Here are some interesting facts about the island.

An Island Made of Lava

The island and its neighboring Palea Kameni are a result of a repeated dacite lava eruptions and ash. While strolling on the island, you’ll be able to see not just one, but a few deep craters. It’s surreal.

Gay Ljubljana – The Globetrotter Guys

Gay Ljubljana - The Globetrotter Guys

Slovenia has blown us away! You have to add it to your gay travel list straight away!

We arrived in Slovenia as part of Pink Week. This was a 4 day tour of Slovenia in a gay friendly environment organised by gay owned travel company Luxury Slovenia and supported by the tourism board.

Slovenia is perhaps one of the most beautiful, scenic and green countries we have ever visited. Whilst most people will have heard about its neighbours, Austria, Italy and Croatia, we felt that Slovenia was less well known and deserves more attention!

Not only that, but as a gay couple, we felt very welcome and safe in Slovenia. We barely gave being a gay couple here a second thought; and that is a good thing!

In fact, it is stated on the tourism boards website: ‘’Slovenia, especially Ljubljana, is friendly and open to all visitors. As guests who are members of the gay and lesbian community, you are welcome here. All the services provided by Slovenia to its guests are also available to you.’’

So let’s see what gay Slovenia and its capital city, gay Ljubljana, has to offer!

Gay Life in Mexico – The Nomadic Boys

Gay life in Mexico - The Nomadic Boys

There was a time when the number 41 was considered very bad luck in Mexico. The Army used to leave the number 41 out of battalions, and in hospital/hotel rooms, Room #41 would just be skipped out entirely. It was so bad that some people would even skip out their 41st birthday completely!

Why?

This innocuous number became synonymous with Mexican queer culture in the early 1900s following a raid on a private party by police on 17th November 1901. At this party, there were 41 men: 22 dressed as men, 19 as women. There was, in fact, a 42nd person in attendance: Ignacio de la Torre, who was President Porfirio Díaz’s son-in-law. Whilst the police allowed Ignacio to escape, they arrested the remaining 41, beat them, jailed them, convicted them, then later conscripted them into the army as punishment. This became a massive scandal in Mexican society and became known as “The Dance of the 41” (“Baile de los 41”).

Whilst homosexuality was legalised in Mexico as far back as 1871, society remained so hostile to homosexuality that this scandal led to the vilification of the number 41. Calling someone 41 was akin to saying they were queer.

Oregon Coast Camping With Kids – 2TravelDads

Oregon Coast Camping

We have had our first Kampgrounds of America (KOA) camping experience and are thrilled to share it with you. Before this trip we didn’t really know what to expect at a KOA, even though we’d reviewed the website and seen many campgrounds. You just don’t know what the feel of a place is going to be and how it’ll fit with your travel style until you’re actually there. I’ll tell you it was great. When it comes to Oregon Coast camping, the Astoria / Warrenton / Seaside KOA Resort was perfect for us.

LOCALE OF THE ASTORIA / WARRENTON / SEASIDE KOA

We spend a lot of time in Oregon, and particularly on the Oregon Coast. At least once a year, this year it’s been twice already, we do an Oregon Coast road trip, either from tip to tip or just one part of the Oregon Coast. If you’re coming from Washington State or the Portland area, the practical first stop for you coastal getaway is Astoria, Oregon. About two hours from Portland and 3.5 hours from Eugene or Seattle, WA, Astoria or Seaside are totally doable for an easy weekend escape.

You do have to either drive along the Columbia River for a good portion of the trip or you’ll cross the Coastal Range. Either way, the drive is beautiful and there are plenty of stops you can make along the way, from hiking in the hills to visiting small towns full of wineries. If you’re coming from Washington, you can add a little side trip to Cape Disappointment State Park either on your way to or from the KOA Astoria to get your lighthouse fix, because there are two just off the Columbia River. However you get to your Oregon Coast camping destination, you’ll enjoy the full travel experience.

Kutna Hora, Czech Republic – Keep Calm and Wander

Sedlec Ossuary - Kotna Hora - Prague - Czech Republic

Kutna Hora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its ancient architecture, mining history, gothic cathedrals such as the Ossuary, and its fair share in making the Czech Republic what it is today.

Here are the things you can do there.

1. Sedlec Ossuary

Known better as “The Bone Church”, this might be the most bizarre structure you see in the city. It remains a structure housing the remains of more than 40,000 people. Some say its a legend, others agree to it. Its most striking feature is a chandelier made of every bone a human has.

Eating Out Buena Park – 2TravelDads

Eating Out Buena Park - 2TravelDads

Buena Park is known for being the home of Knott’s Berry Farm, but it’s so much more than that! It’s actually full of restaurants and culture that make visiting and hanging around BP really fun for the whole family. If you want some guaranteed good food experiences, here’s your guide to where to eat in Buena Park. We’re all about being family friendly and unique, so that’s what we’ve included here.

True, we like to use Buena Park as a home base for exploring more of the OC, but if you want to stick close to your hotel and the attractions on your itinerary, might as well enjoy some great Buena Park dining too. We were surprised by some of the establishments we visited, and we know you will be too!

THE SOURCE OC: GO-TO SPOT FOR FUN AND FOOD

Who knew that we’d find a new favorite hangout in Buena Park? A little back story: we used to live an work in Buena Park long before the kids were born, so it’s always been a bit of a second home for us. The Source OC is a new and awesome spot that I wish was around when we lived there. It’s full of restaurants, sure, but it also has some really fun murals and shops. If you need something K-Pop they’ve got you covered. If you are too hot and need to escape with kids for an hour or two, there’s an amazing indoor play space: Play Pie.

Bogata Gay Bars – The Nomadic Boys

Bogata Gay Bars - The Nomadic Boys

We will never forget the gay scene of Bogota!

One minute, we were dancing under the disco lights to Cher’s ‘Believe’, the next, we were in the adjacent room, getting down to some Latino-infused techno. Moving between 13 rooms of music, each with a different style or atmosphere, we had a baker’s dozen worth of experiences in a single night.

This is Theatron – a mega-club built from the ruins of an old cinema; where most of the Bogota gay boys end their Saturday night and party until the early hours of Sunday. After paying a visit to it, you know nothing else you do that night can top it!

But where do all the gay boys of Bogota head to before congregating at the mother of all gay clubs? After all, Theatron doesn’t really get busy until after midnight.

We found the gay scene of Bogota to be full of many excellent bars. There is something for everyone, no matter what you’re into. In this guide, we’ve put together some of the best gay bars in Bogota to head for a drink before partying the night away.

LGBT Travel in Asia – Our Taste for Life

LGBT Travel in Asia

Oh, Asia. A vibrant, diverse, and energetic place to travel. But is Asia a gay-friendly travel destination? It’s one of the most commonly asked questions we receive, and one we are super happy to finally be addressing. In this LGBT Travel Guide, we will delve into the LGBT rights in Asia, as well as how to prepare as an LGBT traveller.

After spending 18 months travelling throughout this colourful continent, we can tell you that it hasn’t always been fun and rainbows. Coming from the UK where, for the most part, we can be completely open about our sexuality; it was peculiar to suddenly visit countries where homosexuality was a taboo; or worse, against the law.

Many ask us how we deal with this. Why would we want to travel to these countries if we can’t be ourselves? We look at it this way. ALL cultures have beliefs and traditions. Do we agree with all of them? Of course not. That doesn’t mean that we boycott those countries completely. At the end of the day, we travel to open our minds, and appreciating that there are other ways of life is the first step.

With this in mind, we have now spent almost two consecutive years in Asia. In that time, we have visited gay-friendly cities; travelled off the beaten path; and spent time in countries where homosexuality is criminalised. Guess what? We had a great time in all of them.
