Las Vegas Day Trip to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon Skywalk – Go Girlfriend

Hoover Dam - pixabay

From the original Las Vegas Fremont Street to the newer Strip, Las Vegas is big, it’s bold, it’s loud and it’s game-y – but oh, so entertaining! Like heading to Orlando and never getting out to see the Atlantic or Gulf Coast beaches, so too are the exploring opportunities when you’re visiting Las Vegas.

Day trip possibilities can take you in any direction – north, south, east or west. Spend your time within Vegas but rent a convertible and explore the bigger “wild west” of Nevada.

Not many of us live close to grand canyons and wild untamed rivers. As urbanites, we live in geographically mundane surroundings day-to-day and have to take a road trip to explore those mountains, national parks or beaches that seem so close, but are oh so far away.

Within a day trip opportunity east of Las Vegas are the grandest of canyons (epic truly!), and the super-truly, awe-inspiring Hoover Dam of magnificent proportions. Both are linked to the Colorado River, the Hoover Dam holding back and harnessing the power of the Colorado River, and the Grand Canyon being etched over millennia by the Colorado River. I recommend you get out and explore these two wonders.

Visit the Old City Walls

Lesbian Helinski, Finland – Stuff.co.nz

lesbian Helinski

As I alighted from the tram at the Kallio neighbourhood, mid-rise container buildings fill the compact streets, giving it an industrial, no-frills attitude to it.

The quarter strikes me as idle at first impression, a slightly grungier little brother to Helsinki’s glamorous city centre. It is no wonder since Kallio is a former working-class neighbourhood. Today, it is transformed into a trendy district for artists and students to hang out.

Kallio is the most densely populated urban area in Finland, and its streets are lined with a wide range of cafes, restaurants, bars and street-front boutiques.

I am on a mission to blend in with the locals and spot some of Helsinki’s grungy hipster gems and local hangouts.

Within the terracotta brick walls exists an assuming cafe-gallery. I push through the aged-mustard door and my eyes are instantly drawn towards the bold strokes of artwork that line the walls of Rupla, the communal space sparsely scattered with indoor plants to add to the atmosphere of homeliness.

Getting From Prague Airport to the City Center

Prague Airport

The Vaclav Havel Prague airport is located 17km (11 miles) northwest from the city centre. It is the main international airport for the Czech Republic and the only airport serving Prague.

There are 2 main terminals. Terminal 1 is where international non-Schengen flights arrive. Terminal 2 is where international Schengen-zone member flights arrive. So if you’re flying from Europe, you’re likely to arrive at Terminal 2. Passengers from North America will be arriving at Terminal 1.

There are several ways to get from Prague Airport to the city centre, which we’ve set out in detail below.

Utah’s Capitol Reef National Park – Free Wheel Drive

Utah's Capitol Reef National Park - Free Wheel Drive

Leaving the Grand Staircase area we enter a new type of landscape. The land starts off fairly flat with lots of sand and short desert plants, but then in the distance is a ridge that soars upwards and cuts through the desert for miles.

Capitol Reef National Park got it’s name from the geological formations that can be found here. Capitol is from the sandstone features that resemble capitol building domes and Reef for the rock walls that created a barrier for travelers.

Geologists know these rock formations are apart of the Waterpocket Fold. Some 50 million years ago an old fault line was reactivated and tectonic forces started moving the earth’s crust. With this formation, only land on the West side of the fault line was pushed up while the East side remained in place. The rocks on the West side were lifted 7,000 feet in the air. Then with several million more years of erosion many of the colorful layers of sandstone and rock have been exposed.

The park is 60 miles long, but averages 6 miles wide.

Sailing Greece – Passport Magazine

Sailing Greece - Passport Magazine

I often thought about the timelessness of sailing Greece while aboard the Star Flyer, a 360-foot-long, four-mast clipper ship. It was a natural connection, because we were cruising aboard a modern vessel through the Aegean, the world’s great, famous sea of myths and legends. There I stood on the bow of a gleaming tall ship, traversing the same stretch of water as Odysseus at war with the Trojans. But unlike the tribulations in Homer’s Odyssey, I was relaxing with an Aperol spritz under blue skies.

This was my first sailing cruise—a weeklong voyage with Star Clippers (www.starclippers.com) through the Northern Cyclades Islands. The trip would take us round trip from Athens on an unforgettable journey to Patmos, Amorgos, Mykonos, Monemvasia, and to Kusadasi, Turkey.

Sailing is distinct from other cruises. Motor-powered cruising across an ocean or river have their own appeal, but the opportunity to sail was an intriguing alternative. As I plotted the trip along with my spouse and co-adventurer Denise, we wondered how the boat would feel on the sea, how much we’d rely on wind versus engine power, how easily would the crew manage the enormous sails?

That curiosity led us aboard the Star Flyer with open minds. At the cruise port of Pireaus in Athens, we climbed the gangplank on a hot Mediterranean afternoon, joining our fellow passengers in the ship’s open-air Tropical Bar where we awaited embarkation.

Cape Town Gay Pride – The Globetrotter Guys

Cape Town Gay Pride - The Globetrotter Guys

Gay Pride in Cape Town was not what we expected at all! It really is quite unique compared to many of the other gay pride events we have been to and we highly recommend you add it to your pride bucket-list.

We found Cape Town Pride to be so unique because of the people. We have never seen such a diverse and inclusive crowd of people at a pride festival! Most pride festivals we have been to have been 95% men (which of course is nice for us!), however this is not the case for Cape Town gay pride at all.

There is an even spread across all genders, age, sexuality and race – everyone is well represented which of course is what pride is about. We spoke with the Festival Director of Pride, Matthew Van As and he explained that there is a common misconception that Cape Town Pride is going to be just a festival full of the stereotypical white male crowd – the reality is completely different and as a result Cape Town Pride had a very diverse and local feel to it!

Lets take a look at all you need to know about Cape Town Gay Pride and let us convince you to get yourself booked for next year!

British Columbia’s Sea to Sky Gondola Ride – Keep Calm and Wander

Sea to Sky Gondola - Keep Calm and Wander

It’s a blessing when you have a friend who knows how to drive. As someone who doesn’t know how to maneuver a vehicle, my movements are limited within the city of Vancouver and its neighboring areas that are accessible to public transport. Yesterday afternoon, a friend and I drove to Squamish to ride on the Sea to Sky Gondola.

Since both of us are first timers in the area, we really didn’t know what to expect at the summit. For sure, there will be views but we were not prepared for a jaw-dropping scenery. We were both stunned and sighed every time we see saw something really spectacular. If getting close to a glacier is in your bucket list, then, this place would never disappoint you.

The Sea to Sky Gondola is just 45 minutes drive from Vancouver. It’s the same highway that you take going to Whistler. The panoramic drive is an experience in itself. If you’re just visiting the city, it’s worth renting a car (we had Evo) for an afternoon or morning trip. But, of course, you can stay in hotels in the town of Squamish if you want to stay overnight – after a long day hike.

Finding the Miami Gay Beach – The Globetrotter Guys

Miami Gay Beach - The Globetrotter Guys

Miami is exactly like what you will have seen on the T.V. and in films! It’s a trendy, vibrant and very cool beach destination. Miami has been a gay hotspot for many years with gay bars, gay beaches, gay events such as the winter party and a large gay population – we can definitely see the attraction to living and visiting here.

We came to Miami looking to relax before we went on an Atlantis gay cruise (check out ‘What is a gay Atlantis cruise really like…’) and so headed straight for the gay beach in Miami. There are actually two ‘official’ gay beaches in Miami and if that’s what you are looking for, you have come to the right place!

Sometimes when you head to a destination, finding the ‘gay beach’ can be a challenge, however all the gay beaches in Miami are very easy to find. Here is how to find each of them:

12th Street Gay Beach, Miami
South Beach Miami is where the majority of the gay nightlife can be found, so it should come as no surprise that this is where you will find the most popular gay beach in Miami.

The area is very easy to navigate. Streets are numbered running east to west and start at 1st Street at the south end of South Beach and increase in number as you head north.
