City Sunday: Eureka Springs, Arkansas

city-sundays-eureka-springs Hey all, Welcome to our weekly series on the blog and our Facebook travel groups – City Sundays. Each week we’ll select a different LGBT friendly city to talk about, and we’ll invite our innkeeper and travel agent/tour operator friends to come talk with us about it as well. From “Out in Eureka“: The first city in Arkansas to officially endorse same-sex marriage and the first and only city in the state with a Domestic Partnership Registry, and now the only city in Arkansas with an LGBT specific anti-discrimination ordinance, Eureka Springs also the number one vacation destination in the Mid-South for out and proud LGBT travelers. The antithesis of the redneck stereotype, our micro mecca has been a beyond-gay-friendly getaway for decades– long before out was in. Here, one Gay Pride weekend won’t do. So, Spring, Summer and Fall we also celebrate a trifecta of Diversity Weekends that attract thousands of gay and lesbian gaycationers. A microcosm of San Francisco, we boast a disproportionately large gay population, dozens of gay-owned and gay-friendly B&Bs, hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, art galleries, shops, turn-of-the-century Victorian homes and vintage trolleys plying steep and narrow village streets. Have you ever been? What did you do while you were there? Do you wanna go? Let’s chat! 1. My partner Shannon and I have owned Cabin Fever Resort since May 2010. We absolutely love Eureka Springs. It’s so nice to live in a beautiful and unique place like Eureka. We get to have our business, be who we are and live in a gorgeous area. Who could ask for anything more? Cabin Fever I think is perfectly located right between beautiful Beaver Lake and downtown Eureka. We are located on Hwy 187 which is the road that has Beaver Dam. Our favorite thing to do is to get a pontoon boat and cruise around the lake and then find a quiet cove and go swimming. You can rent a boat from Starkey Marina which is about 8 miles from the cabins.
Maybe you aren’t a water person, well that’s ok. Maybe you would rather hit all the shops in historic downtown Eureka or maybe you want to go zip lining or taking a tour of eureka on one of the trams orrrrr maybe you just want to stay in your cabin and recharge your batteries. You can do as little or as much as you want to do. That’s what coming to Cabin Fever is all about to us.
