Life in Gay Vancouver

VancouverMiles Mitchinson, founder of gay tour operator Detours Travel, shows us around his icily cool home city – including where to find a 16-piece sushi dinner that’s cheaper than a Starbucks across the road!

I’ve lived here since…
…since I was 2 weeks old! In the ‘newlywed and nearlydead’ suberb of White Rock for the first 18 years, and now in the Yaletown area of the downtown core.

I’ve stayed because…
…there’s no city in the world like it! The downtown core is surrounded by ocean, only 15 minutes driving to the nearest ski-able mountain. It’s also one of the most walking-friendly cities I’ve ever been to.

My favourite queer bar has to be…
…1181 for the first couple drinks then Oasis for a completely unpretentious good time. It’s been four years since the closing of our city’s beloved Odyssey, to make way for a housing project and nothing has been able to fully take its place.
