Honolulu is everything Kauai isn't. On Kauai, the gay nightlife on Kauai consists of a relaxing evening by the bonfire on the beach in Kapaa. Honolulu boasts a number of gay bars in easy walking distance to central Waikiki.
Honolulu is bustling, big, and boisterous. Think L.A., only with more palm trees, no smog, and a more relaxed attitude (you thought that wasn't possible? <grin>).
The architecture, especially in the older and much newer parts of the city, can be wonderful, even stunning.
Driving through Waikiki, you'll see lots of cute, tanned guys (and girls) with surfboards, body boards and inflatable, um, rafts, walking from their apartments to the beach and vice versa.
Honolulu has a little bit of everything, from the mainline stores (Sears, Circuit City, Office Max) to the local shopping centers and boutiques.
