Celebrating nearly 500 years as the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the United Sates, don’t be fooled by the age of this vibrant city. This abuela (grandmother) of american cities will surprise you with amazing restaurants, a vibrant city core, miles of beaches, a touch of sinfulness, and historic sites to explore that will turn back time.

As a couple’s romantic destination, a girlfriend’s weekend retreat or a family beach vacation, a simple walk over the Bridge of Lions will tease excitement of what historic St. Augustine has to offer.

Where to Eat in St. Augustine

Good question? Would you like the old city or the more modern? Would you like seafood (fresh catches right from the ocean), farm to table freshness, or have a specific taste preference? I’m certain St. Augustine can satisfy it.

Catch 27 – deliciously delivering fresh seafood made from scratch with the freshest of locally sourced ingredients – what a treat! Try their cheese board as an appetiser with smoked blue cheese and drunken cherries, and any cocktail that features the distinctive St. Augustine gin.

Gay Friendly Northeastern Florida Bed and Breakfasts, Hotels, and Vacation Rentals

Each Victorian bedchamber has a faintly old-fashioned air, hinting of lavender sachets tucked away in every drawer. The colors and patterns are of serene tones, pale as opposed to rich, creating an effect much like that of a rain-washed spring garden transplanted indoors. A mix of family heirlooms and eclectic finds make each bedchamber an inviting and romantic retreat.

You may choose Victoriana, which has an impressive bedstead with a built-up, crested headboard of a type particularly favored by wealthy tycoons who felt it invested their private chambers with a suitable grandeur. As the bathing facilities were important in that era, experience the opulence of a grand oval tub, lit only by candlelight, with you (and perhaps your loved one) encased in soft, creamy bubbles. Or, if you prefer to wash while standing up, a separate shower will add to your comfort. Either way you might pause before the fireplace and admire the fresh flowers once again before you open the French doors leading onto the private screened porch to listen to the final night sounds.

Or, perhaps, the Queen Anne bedchamber is more your style. With its lacy bedspread so lovingly hand crocheted and moire swags to frame the high four poster bed set amid the rose garden rug you truly experience the grandeur and intimacy of a regal era. After refreshing yourself in the large claw foot tub (with shower added for your comfort), enjoy the final sunset moments in large old fashioned rockers on your private porch. Of course the fresh flowers and lacy doilies once again catch your eye as you step through the lace curtained French doors.
