Just how gay-friendly is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico? What is gay life really like there?
Many people exaggerate about a destination being super gay only once it is visited discover it really is not. Mister BnB just produced an article about how gay friendly Tel Aviv is so we used the same criteria to produce our answer to just how gay Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is. The destination has been known as a gay mecca since the 1980’s and until recently Puerto Vallarta’s tourist season was very limited *the busiest months from November until Easter. Recently, Puerto Vallarta has been moving toward a year round busy season and its increasing appeal to LGBT travelers and residents is due to several factors.  Among them are increased national airline flights into Puerto Vallarta, the rising Mexican middle class traveling more, and the increased marketing and awareness of Puerto Vallarta as an LGBT destination.

Why the popularity of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico among the LGBT travelers?
1. Puerto Vallarta has the most well developed gay nightlife in Mexico! The first gay bar opened more than 20 years ago and today more than 25 hot gay bars and clubs are operating *some until 6 am, each unique and all located in the gayborhood.

2. Puerto Vallarta has a true Gay Zone. The Zona Romantica is a true gayborhood with all the gay bars, clubs, businesses, restaurants, and gay hotels within a safe walking distance of each other. With some rare exceptions, you never have to leave the gayborhood for anything!

3. Puerto Vallarta is for foodies! There is something for every culinary appetite and budget, from street taco stands to fine dining and everything in between.

4. Puerto Vallarta has an amazing arts and culture scene including the best gay cabaret scene in Mexico! We have three great cabaret venues producing two shows 7 nights a week from November until May…with 2 of them open year round. Also we have numerous great art galleries and artists exhibiting and living in town. Mix in festive Mexican culture and rich traditions for an amazing treat for everyone.

Puerto Vallarta Mexico for LGBT Families

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico has done an outstanding job attracting the family to the destination, Huge all-inclusive resorts with large pools, family friendly activities, family beaches, and kid’s clubs abound. But, what about the LGBT family? This is a relatively new niche in LGBT tourism that presents a great opportunity for Puerto Vallarta. Olivia Travel and R Family Vacations, two of the largest players in LGBT travel, recently announced a partnership to produce an LGBT family vacation at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Puerto Vallarta has everything to attract the LGBT family. Let’s see what and why!

LGBT parents state they are more interested in choosing a family friendly vacation destination than an LGBT friendly destination. Puerto Vallarta is a very family friendly destination. Large, all-inclusive resorts exist throughout the city. Large gay friendly chains like Costa Sur,  Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt are reaching out to the LGBT market, and eventually to the LGBT family. Gay properties in the romantic zone like Hacienda Escondida attract the LGBT Family also.

LGBT parents are looking for destinations that are safe and have laws that do not discriminate. Overall, Mexico is considered a very safe travel destination and the country supports LGBT rights. The Mexican Supreme court has taken some very strong stances supporting the LGBT community. On August 18, 2014 The Mexican Supreme Court (SCJ) issued a landmark protocol to guarantee the rights of the LGBT community and their access to justice in Mexico. The”Protocolo de Actuación” released by Chief Justice Ministro Presidente Juan N Silva Meza is a guide for judges and all those who administer justice in cases involving sexual orientation or gender identity. See http://bit.ly/gaypv079. This is a very important when LGBT are planning their destinations for living and touring. In 2014, Mexico was the 4th most popular international destination visited by LGBT from the US, with Puerto Vallarta the #1 specific destination.

Targeting an LGBT traveler only by his or her sexuality is not enough.  Just like the heterosexual market, many factors determine LGBT travel interests including age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, personal taste, and now children. Some LGBT crave adventure; others travel for Vallarta Pride 2016. Some are seeking a quiet relaxing vacation on the beach. Puerto Vallarta has it all. Adventure: our destination has the most number of LGBT art and culture activities in all of Mexico!  Vallarta Adventures, Art Walk and Restaurant Week! The Gay Friendly Beach: in front of Mantamar Beach Club and Blue Chairs. See for yourself how Beyond Gay Friendly Puerto Vallarta can be!

The LGBT traveler meets nature in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  Our  beyond gay friendly destination is an ecotourism wonderland. It is here the Sierra Madre mountains join the Pacific ocean and lush jungle to form a natural wonderland paradise. Puerto Vallarta offers more gay and gay friendly activities  than any other Mexican destination. Cool refreshing rains arrive in June bringing new life to vegetation, riverbeds and jungles. It is a great opportunity to experience our exotic destination.

Although the “rainy season” arrives in June many LGBT travelers mistakenly think this is a time to avoid travel to Puerto Vallarta. Nothing could not be further from the truth. Most often the rain, indeed hard at times, is at night bringing a refreshing cool next morning perfect for a trip to the gay friendly Botanical Gardens (www.vbgardens.org) or the Vallarta Zoo (www.zoologicodevallarta.com). Rains that arrive in the day are most often followed by the returning sun allowing for a perfect day at the luxury gay friendly beach club Mantamar (www.mantamarvallarta.com). It s also a great opportunity to experience horseback riding, atv jungle trek or zip line with Go Gay Vallarta’s jungle adventure.

As cooling refreshing rains bring new life to the town, so has the gay Romantic Zone experienced new life thru recent redevelopment. The center of gay life in Puerto Vallarta is the Romantic Zone with its many gay bars and clubs. La Noche Bar, one of Puerto Vallarta’s top night spots, has completed 3 floors including a new roof top terrace with a fantastic view of the city. Across the street, Spartacus Spa has also added a rooftop terrace taking advantage of the open air view of the city. CC Slaughter’s will be adding air conditioning so LGBT travelers who have not visited the city recently will be pleasantly surprised as to what’s in store. La Margarita and La Fiesta  are great spots to enjoy a drink and meet new friends.

Why should LGBT travelers visit Puerto Vallarta in June? It a great time to take advantage of summer savings at restaurants, hotels, and businesses. Many hotels, like Casa Cupula (www.casacupula.com), begin the summer saving season. Visit www.gaypv.mx/deals for great savings and discounts of all the businesses in one place. Puerto Vallarta has much to offer the LGBT traveler. It’s time to visit the new Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and see how beyond gay friendly Puerto Vallarta can be.

Puerto Vallarta Mexico an LGBT Arts and Culture Mecca

Author: , April 25th, 2015

art-culture-slide3

How important is arts and culture to the LGBT traveler? Very much so!  What arts and culture does Puerto Vallarta offer the LGBT traveler? We will concentrate on major offerings found in Puerto Vallarta: art galleries, music and theatre.

Puerto Vallarta has become a vibrant center of art gallery exhibition and promotion within Mexico.  A large group of gay friendly galleries are centered in the gay romantic zone and centro historico. In season take advantage of a self guided artwalk tour (www.vallartaartwalk.com) and Southside Shuffle.

Puerto Vallarta is very fortunate to have its own gay men’s chorus (www.pvmenschorus.org). Organized in 2012 as the first gay chorus in Mexico and Latin America, this chorus consists of 50 to 100 national and ex-pat singers. They perform both current and historical favorites in English and Spanish and is under the director of a new leader Alfonzo Lopez. Puerto Vallarta has also received men’s chorus from other cities, like the Arizona gay men’s chorus Reveille for 2014 Vallarta Gay Pride See bit.ly/gaypv056.

Puerto Vallarta has fantastic musical and comedy venues targeting the LGBT and friendly community: The Palm celebrating 15 years and Act 2 entertainment with its Main Stages and The Red Room. In season these venues feature famous international musical performers like Well Strung (The Today Show), Lorna Luft, Emmy award winner Leslie Jordan, Roslyn Kind and Jason Brock (the X Factor) seven nights a week.

Puerto Vallarta’s long running original drag shows began in the 1980’s at places like Paco’s Ranch and Blue Chair’s rooftop and continue today. A very successful production of Equus(a famous play) just completed at Act 2 entertainment. See bit.ly/gaypv057. This is quite a challenge even in cities with much larger populations to support theatre. There has been a recent alliance among venues, performers, and local community to increase support for performing arts in Puerto Vallarta (see performingartspv.com).

Puerto Vallarta is a diverse destination. We have different cultures here and a definite need to accept everyone if the destination is to grow and expand. Having a great arts and culture scene in Puerto Vallarta gives LGBT tourists another reason to visit Puerto Vallarta. Come and see for yourself!
