Philadelphia to Host “America’s First Queer Jazz Festival” This September

Philadelphia will be hosting the primarily LGBT-focused “OutBeat,” described as “America’s First Queer Jazz Festival,” from September 18 to 21.

Announced on Wednesday, May 7, by sponsor William Way LGBT Community Center, the festival will host a series of performances around the city as well as panel discussions and receptions.

One panel discussion listed will include pianist and composer Fred Hersch, moderated by New York Times journalist Nate Chinen, while another will include drummer Bill Stewart and singer Patricia Barber, moderated by JazzTimes’ John Murph.
