Straight Woman Traumatized By Stay at Gay NYC Hotel

Author: , November 14th, 2013

Out NYCA woman from Texas got quite a surprise when she accidentally checked into the Out NYC, a gay hotel in New York City.

“Elise K.” is a Yelper who lives in Austin, Texas. According to her Yelp profile, she loves “travel, art, beauty, architecture, design, jewelry, decor, music, performing, reading, dance, LIFE.” Her favorite movie is 1987′s The Last Emperor, and her favorite meal on earth is sushi.

Last August, she booked a room at the Out NYC, not knowing it was a gay hotel, and she wrote an unintentionally hilarious Yelp review about her experience.

Out NYC to Branch Out to Chicago

Author: , April 11th, 2013

Out Chicago PlansThe folks whobrought us the OutNYC hotel in downtown New York City are working on plans for a second Out hotel, this one in Chicago. GoPride reports:

The developers behind The Out NYC hope to bring their “straight-friendly” boutique hotel to the Windy City, specifically to the 3300 North block of Halsted Street in Boystown. Although rumors of The Out Chicago have circulated for over a year now, confirmation that the plan is moving forward came Friday when Triangle Neighbors vice president John Becvar posted an announcement of the proposal on the neighborhood association’s Facebook page.

There’s a community meeting planned for tonight on the project:

Thursday’s meeting, which is open to the public, is set for 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the 19th District Police Station, located at 850 W Addison between Fremont and Reta. While no final decisions are expected, the meeting will give the developers a chance to release details to the public, garner community support and start the process to bring the luxury brand to Chicago.

Author: , March 29th, 2012

Out NYCThe Out NYC Hotel is the gay hotel complex on West 42nd Street, attached to the gay club xl. But they don’t want anyone too “gay” working the spa, it seems.

Various people just got an email from the place saying:

“We have a 5000sf foot ultra sexy and luxurious wellness center with 3 water falls, 2 hot tubs, a sauna, a hamam, a large gym, a spa deck and more.

“We are looking for a ‘straight’ good looking young man that probably is in school now or works retail or is working part time that would enjoy this fun job.

The New York Times Visits the Out NYC

Author: , March 18th, 2012

ON a recent Saturday night at the new XL nightclub on West 42nd Street, revelers danced with abandon on a sunken floor while the D.J. Manny Lehman spun a percussive house mix, lights flashed, go-go boys undulated on raised platforms and bartenders busily mixed cocktails. I’m really not the party-all-night type, but I stayed pretty late, given that my bed was a short walk away through a couple of glass doors that lead to a Manhattan hotel lobby.

Six Gay Hotels Where the Welcome Mats Have Always Been Out (March 18, 2012)
Welcome to the Out NYC, whose owners have called it both the first gay hotel in New York and a “straight-friendly urban resort.” Located in way west Clinton between 10th and 11th Avenues, the three-story, 70,000-square-foot hotel, the brainchild of Ian Simpson Reisner, a managing partner of Parkview Developers, has 105 rooms. The XL nightclub and bar are just off the lobby; a restaurant and other amenities are in the works.

So my question was: in a place like New York City, what does being a gay hotel mean, exactly? To answer that, I nosed around a handful of New York hotels that identify themselves as gay or gay friendly and gave myself a bit of a history lesson in the process.

Author: , March 2nd, 2012

The Out NYC Urban Resort OpensOn a recent afternoon, construction was brisk and the excitement was palpable at 510 West 42nd Street in Manhattan, the site of THE OUT NYC, a sleek, three-story structure with a glass facade that its creators say will be the first gay hotel in New York City.

The 105-room boutique hotel, located between 10th and 11th Avenues in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, close to Chelsea, Times Square and the Theater District, opens its doors on March 1.

“I had a vision five years ago,” to create a gay hotel that would be conveniently located, said Ian Simpson Reisner, a managing partner of Parkview Developers, which owns THE OUT NYC, but would also “be a relaxing home base resort-style retreat where guests can stay, eat and play.”

Author: , January 20th, 2012

Out NYCSince it was announced some time back, much has been written about Out NYC, the planned gay nightclub/hotel in midtown Manhattan. Not all of it nice.

But we pass by the space almost every day and have watched it blossom like a flower from an abandoned motel into something that might just change the face of New York’s gay nightlife scene. (Something’s gotta!)

Our friends at Next magazine got a peek into the club, XL–where finishing touches are being applied in advance of the opening party, Rockit, on January 27–and spoke to the nightlife veterans putting their name–and their money–where their mouths are.
