Black Walnut Point Inn

By any measure, Tilghman Island’s Black Walnut Point is unique. A private gate secures the half-mile drive through fifty seven acres of bird sanctuary before it emerges at our six-acre island of lawn. When the sun rises over the broad mouth of the Choptank River and sets over the length of Chesapeake Bay, guests enjoy wind, waves and endless water views.

We even have a pair of nesting eagles, osprey and black ducks, as well as migrating butterflies, water fowl and song birds. You might even see bay dolphins, skates and schools of bluefish, and the back dock overlooking the cove is an ideal location for watching the herons fish.

At night the sky is full of stars, another surprise of nature, making Black Walnut Point a quiet, secret, peaceful place – just an hour’s drive from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Each guest room offers panoramic water views, and has a separate bathroom. All of our guests have access to the main house, including the dining room, living room, sun porch, grounds, swimming pool and dock.

We serve a full breakfast between 8 and 10 AM, and lemonade, iced tea, hot tea and snacks are available throughout the day.

Further inland, St. Michaels is where you’ll find the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, as well as a number of festivals and great restaurants, galleries, quirky shops and boat tours.

Back on the island, there are kayak, canoe and jet ski rentals, fishing charters, lighthouse tours and sails with Captain Wade on the skipjack Rebecca T. Ruark, built in 1886 and registered as a national historic landmark.

Gay Travel: Baltimore, The Charm City

Author: , November 24th, 2010

It may not seem like it at first, but Baltimore – known as “Charm City,” among other nicknames – does indeed have some charm to it. There’s more to the Maryland city, settled in the early 17th century, than the scenery that filmmaker John Waters made famous in camp favorites like Pink Flamingos and Hairspray.

Among the brick row houses and restaurants serving crab cakes, visitors can also find an art museum where a giant pink poodle is the star, and a cafe that celebrates women in beehives and leopard print jackets.
