Hua Hin, Thailand

Hua Hin, ThailandHua Hin is a beautiful small beach community, just two and a half hours from Bangkok. It has been the residence of choice for the Thai royal family for many years.

Hua Hin, ThailandWhile gay life is certainly quieter in Hua Hin than Bangkok, Chaing Mai or Phuket, there is a strong gay and lesbian community. For many years folks from Bangkok come to Hua Hin for the weekends all year long and it adds a good deminsion to the community.

Hua Hin, ThailandThere are currently 5 venues as well as one gym that are up and running in Hua Hin as I write.

1. The Red Indian – A small boy bar that have been here for many years.
2. The SM Bar – A bit out of the way and certainly not an S and M bar. The SM are the owner’s initials.
3. Rainbow Bar – On Soi 80 – Good, clean boy bar with massage. This is a good choice.
4. Buddy Boy’s Bar – Also on Soi 80 is a small, clean boy bar with massage.
5. Grasshopper – This is an excellent choice for good drinks, music and service. Free pool table and Wi-Fi and nice staff. The bar in close to the Hilton and Soffitel and is making the effort to be the hub of the gay and lesbian community.

Hua Hin, ThailandIf you are looking for somewhere in Thailand that is not totally “wild”, Hua Hin is a very beautiful and good choice.

My name is Robert “Skip” Burns. I was born in the mountains of North Carolina and lived in Hawaii for over 18 years. While in Hawaii, I was on the board of Marriage Project Hawaii and worked for same-sex partnership rights for over 12 years. I have been living and working in Thailand for the past 8 years.

We began in Phuket and opened CC Bloom’s Hotel in Kata, which is still operating today and is completely gay-friendly. I retired from active management of the hotel 1 year ago and my partner and I moved to Hua Hin and am very involved in building gay community here. I am very happy to answer questions about life in Hua Hin and visitors can fee very free to contact me at skippero@aol.com. I am 65 years old and have been with my Thai partner for 7 years. Hope that you will come and visit us in Hua Hin!
