TRAVELING IN OUR FABULOUS GAY WORLD: Let’s All Go to Ireland to Celebrate!

Author: , June 6th, 2015

Ireland

We can’t think of a better or more appropriate time to visit IRELAND than this year.

IrelandChange your plans of going to Australia or Paris or South America and go to IRELAND this year and show them how much you love IRELAND and thank them for doing what the people of IRELAND did for the LGBT community in their recent voting.

We are really sick and tired of the religious idiots always shoving their views about ‘activist’ judges, etc. cramming their views for different countries and now they are beside themselves to think that the general population of an entire country actually voted YES for same-sex marriage and in IRELAND of all places. Sad to think that in many American cities, the LGBT community cannot even have a float in the Saint Patrick’s Day parade but in IRELAND, they can get legally married.

IrelandTHANK YOU TO ALL THE INTELLIGENT AND WONDERFUL PEOPLE IN IRELAND WHO VOTED FOR SAME SEX MARRIAGE !!!

If you have never been to IRELAND, you have really missed out on a lot. The people are some of the friendliest in the entire world. We will not even go into the hundreds of things to see in do there as it would take a whole book.

Best to just check it out online and go from there. We have never heard one bad thing from travelers who have visited IRELAND. Their pubs and food are delicious and their country is filled with breath-taking views that will fill several of your digital camera chips.

IrelandThere are over 50 Gay owned and Gay friendly accommodations to stay that are listed on purpleroofs. From small cottages and Inns on the seacoast and in the countryside to the larger grand hotels in the major cities, you will not have any troubles find the perfect one just for you.

Some of the better websites to check out before going to IRELAND are:

Marriage Equality Will Boost Gay Tourism Worldwide

Author: , March 14th, 2014

Gay WeddingGrowing acceptance and legalization of same-sex marriages in the United States and around the globe will fuel the travel and hospitality industries and boost spending by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender consumers, experts say.

Seventeen U.S. states and the District of Columbia, and a similar number of countries recognize gay unions. Last month Scotland legalized gay marriages, joining a list that includes the Netherlands, Brazil, France, New Zealand, Argentina, South Africa and others.

Although the LGBT community is a small segment of the U.S. population, Charlie Rounds, of the Florida-based International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) Foundation, said the changes in marriage laws will have big implications for travel in the United States and abroad. “It is going to be an inordinate percentage of the wedding market in the next five to 10 years,” he said in an interview during a visit to New York.

Will Marriage Equality Boost Hawaii Gay Tourism?

Author: , November 15th, 2013

Gay Wedding in CancunA gay couple of 14 years stayed up late Friday night in Texas to watch the live stream of the Hawaii House of Representatives voting to approve same-sex marriage after a heated, days-long debate in the Aloha state legislature.

Though the same-sex marriage bill passed by the state Senate on Tuesday was set to be signed by the governor on Wednesday, the couple didn’t hesitate: they immediately contacted a Maui resort and reserved their dream wedding. The message: “Book it, we’re coming,” said Randy Broussard, a 64-year-old retired nurse living in the central Texas city of Temple with his partner, Ray Arsenault, 69. “Being married at sunset on the beach in the warm sun, it just was so appealing,” Broussard told NBC News on Sunday. “It’s a go.”

In Hawaii, where tourism is the No. 2 industry behind the military, businesses are hoping to snag some of the multi-million dollar gay wedding market just as other states have following passage of their same-sex marriage laws.

Santa Fe Gets a Tourism Boost from Marriage Equality Fight

Author: , October 30th, 2013

New mexico mapGay marriage has helped fuel a tourism boomlet in gay-friendly Santa Fe, New Mexico.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, nearly one-quarter of the 463 same-sex marriage licenses issued in Santa Fe County since August 23 have been issued to out-of-state couples.

“It’s something that never in my wildest dreams I thought would happen, ’cause I’m almost 80 years old,” Dorothy Alexander, 79, told the paper of marrying Devey Napier, 68. “It still makes me kinda dizzy when I think about it.”

Gay Movie Review – “The New Black”

Author: , October 13th, 2013

The New BackJust got back from our final film at the Portland Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. This one is called The New Black, and it covers the intersection of the black community and gay rights.

Set mostly against the backdrop of the fight for marriage equality in Maryland in 2012, the documentary follows several black lesbians as they work to help pass the marriage equality referendum that was sent to the voters after the state legislature approved the initial bill.

It offers a great insight into the behind-the-scenes machinations of both campaigns, and into the split among African Americans when it comes to marriage equality and to gays in general.

One of the most interesting scenes in the film is when one of the activists confronts an aunt at home over family dinner. Her relative spouts off something about the world changing but the bible never does, and her lesbian niece points out that the bible says a lot of things that we no longer believe. They hug, but her aunt refuses to let go of her religiously inspired bigotry.

In another scene, a black Baptist preacher explains to his flock why he decided to support marriage equality, that none of us are free until all of us are free.

Out gospel singer Tonéx is also interviewed for the film, and the footage from the TC interview where he comes out is amazing. The female Christian host keeps asking leading questions, as if determined to push him back into the closet, and he stands his ground and affirms he is still attracted to men and is happy with himself. You should see how she stares daggers at him.

It’s a powerful film that draws the curtain back on the fight going on for the soul of the black churches between marriage equality activists and their opponents, who seek to divide and conquer.

One of the women said it best when she said that marriage equality and LGBT rights are the unfinished business of the black civil rights movement.

Exploring Gay New Zealand

New Zealand - google maps

from Google Maps

New Zealand just passed full marriage equality at a national level. Now Joseph Pedro checks out this very gay friendly South Pacific country. Passport Magazine reports:

I’m curving along a snake-like road through New Zealand. My arms are wrapped tightly around a Hells Angels-type biker who, over the course of one hour, I’ve learned to trust with my life. The vroom vroom vroom-ing of the motorcycle has now become a surprisingly soothing background noise to the endless beauty of Auckland’s west coast. The wind smacks my face so hard that my cheeks beam red through the helmet’s visor and they sting like I’ve been walking New York City blocks in a snowstorm.

Rain dribbles down from the mountain-edge that we’re accelerating up and the raindrops do-si-do off my field of vision. With each curvature of the road, Gaia’s topography here surprises. One view reveals a sweeping landscape with a tremendous sky that is still puffed with vibrant grays. In the foreground, a vast ocean dominates the vista, where jagged rocks appear as though they are fighting for air from the blue waters. It reminds me of the Maori creation story I heard at the Auckland Museum that describes this harmony: “Soon, and yet not soon, for the time was vast, the Sky and Earth began to yield.” And here, way down in the far-flung corner of the Southern Hemisphere sitting on the back of a Harley, I too begin to yield with a place that has forever changed me.

See the full story at the link above. I’ve always wanted to visit New Zealand, especially since the lord of the rings was filmed there. Now I have another reason to go!

Boeing Changes Mind, Will Offer Survivor Benefits to Gay Spouses

Author: , January 18th, 2013

Boeing LogoAircraft manufacturer Boeing Co., which had resisted granting equal survivor pension benefits to same-sex spouses despite Washington State’s new marriage equality law, has now agreed to do so, reports Seattle newspaper The Stranger.

Executives at Boeing, which maintains extensive operations in Washington despite moving its headquarters from Seattle to Chicago several years ago, had told union negotiators in November that because pensions are governed by federal law, it would not offer surviving same-sex spouses the same benefits as opposite-sex spouses.

They said federal law, which does not recognize same-sex marriages, would override Washington’s marriage equality law, passed by the legislature last year and affirmed by voters in November.
