Gay Days in Orlando 2012

Author: , June 20th, 2012

We recently had the opportunity to visit Orlando, FL for the Gay Days event. Gay Days is a week long event leading up to Saturday, which is the big day, at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. This week attracts over 100,000 gay people from all over and is the first Saturday in the month of June.  During the week, different gay bars around the city host event parties to get things going. The Parliament House is a great example. They bring in famous DJ’s and Drag Queens from around the country to perform. This year they even brought in stars like Chaka Khan, Mia, and Sonique. The host hotel is sold out to mostly Gay Days attendees and has afternoon and evening pool parties for both men and women, and there is even a trade show where guests can purchase some fabulous merchandise.

Perhaps the biggest and most sought after party of the week is Riptide, held Friday night at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon.  This private event is attended by a sold out crowd of nearly 6,000 gay boys, and some girls, dancing and drinking the night away in some really tight swimwear. Most of the parks attractions are open and heavily used by the partying guests. Drink stations are planted heavily throughout the park for easy access and purchase your favorite adult beverage.  The main stage and giant video screen were placed on the beach of Disney’s largest wave pool so guests can dance to the latest hits with the sand between their toes and Go Go boys gyrating on the stage for everyone to enjoy.

Finally the big day has arrived. It’s Saturday and Disney’s Magic Kingdom is starting to fill with a sea of red. Those attending the park that which to stand out as being there for the Gay Days event wear a red shirt to show their support.  Every ride, every food or merchandise stand was infected with red shirts. It’s a beautiful sight to see. Main Street is lined with red shirts for the three o’clock parade. As the day ends and night time begins we all again try and gather in front of Cinderella’s Castle for the night time firework show. It truly is the best way to end a magical day.

Sunday is the last day of the event and those who have not worn themselves out yet attend Epcot. There are still those who wear their red shirts and most others wear their rainbow mickey head pins that they bought at the park the day before.  It seems that most of the guys head for the rides in the morning and then after lunch they just go where the booze is. Drinking your way around the world at Epcot with new friends is a nice way to end your magical week in Orlando for Gay Days.

Gay Days Las Vegas to Challenge Gay Days Orlando

Author: , June 3rd, 2012

Gay Days Las VegasFor two decades, Gay Days has been synonymous with Orlando. It started as a way for the local gay-and-lesbian community to celebrate gay pride with an annual high-profile visit to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom theme park, but it quickly grew into a nationally known festival with a week’s worth of parties, networking, social events and theme-park trips.

But the festival, which kicks off Tuesday with a party in the upscale Mall at Millenia, has some serious cross-country competition this year — of its own making: The organizers of Gay Days Orlando are also making preparations for their first Gay Days Las Vegas this September.

Still, official hotel bookings for Orlando’s Gay Days are pacing ahead of last year’s reservations — an indication that the theme-park capital of the world is at least holding its own against the casino capital of the world.

Disneyland’s Gay Days to Draw More Than 30,000 Visitors

Author: , September 30th, 2011

Once an underground gathering that was regularly protested by religious groups and conservative politicians, the annual Gay Days at the Disneyland Resort marks its 14th anniversary this weekend and is expected to draw more than 30,000 people to the Anaheim amusement parks.

Though not officially sponsored by the Disneyland Resort, the annual celebration has become one of the most crowd-dependable and popular gatherings at the park.

This year, there are to be Disney-themed “Gay Day” T-shirt sales, discount tickets for attendees, an ABC television screening, concerts and a chance to talk with 90-year-old actress Carol Channing or meet up with Emmy Award-winning actress Jane Lynch, a star of the hit TV show “Glee.”

Disneyworld Gay Days WarningA Christian conservative group protested Disney World’s annual Gay Day by flying a warning message over the park. The Florida Family Association contracted a plane to fly over the park dragging a giant banner that reads, “Warning Gay Day At Disney.”

The group said it flew similar banners on Friday and Saturday: “Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, Florida Family Association contracted this aircraft company to fly a seven foot high banner for ten hours the day before and ten hours the day of Gay Pride Day at Disney World.”
