Cruising As a Gay Couple – The Globetrotter Guys

Cruising As a Gay Couple - The Globetrotter Guys

After our last gay cruise with Atlantis Events we sat down and talked about all the different types of people on board and how incredible it was to see everyone be themselves, free from outside judgement. We reached out and asked the community for their own personal experiences on-board the Atlantis gay cruise and had an overwhelming amount of responses.

One response that really stood out was from Jon and Blake from Oregon. They have been on three gay cruises and have seen their relationship develop over time. They shared some incredibly interesting and refreshing insights in our interview below.

To read about other types of people on a gay cruise, head over to ‘Who goes on a gay cruise‘ where we have spoken to everyone from solo travellers, to couples, throuples and groups of friends. Over to Jon and Blake to talk about cruising as an open gay couple:

Cruising as a Gay Couple: An Interview with Jon and Blake

Hi guys, thanks so much for offering to speak with us. Please could you introduce yourselves to our readers.

Hi there, I’m Jon, here with my husband Blake, in Portland, OR by way of NM and AZ. We’ve now been together just over 10 years.

Can you tell us a little about your cruises with Atlantis to date?

We first joined the Atlantis cruise family in 2018, so this was our third consecutive “January cruise.” Our first was as a closed, engaged couple in an 8 year relationship. We went with a group of about 30 friends, and as we were considered a more ‘uptight’ couple, they weren’t sure whether we would come along! By our second cruise, much of that group had decided not to return, though with a few carryovers, friends, and others we had met on the 2018 cruise, our orbit continued to grow. Just a few months prior to the cruise, we had begun discussing the idea of an ‘open’ relationship, in part from exposure to it via coupled friends, and in part, via the 2018 cruise.

“Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want to take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama…”

While there might not be a real “Kokomo” in the Caribbean (or at least there wasn’t until that Beach Boys’ song came out!) there are still so many incredibly beautiful islands to explore. From the colourful and lively San Juan to the lush and mountainous Grenada, the Caribbean has a great deal to offer.

Give us a Caribbean beach or two any day. Or better still, hop aboard a Caribbean gay cruise and you get to visit a whole bunch of them. With over 700 islands, islets and reefs to explore, island hopping this lush area of the world with a fabulous group of gay guys is definitely the way forward!

When it comes to gay cruises in the Caribbean, there are many options. Each one is unique in its own way. We’ve put together our list of some of the best ones you need to check out. Note that we have divided our guide up into two parts: the first featuring gay only cruises, the second, a gay group mixed with a larger group.

RSVP 35TH ANNIVERSARY CARIBBEAN CRUISE

Upcoming LGBTQ+ Cruises – The Nomadic Boys

LGBTQ+ Cruises - The Nomadic Boys

Let’s get ship faced…we’re going on a cruise!

It’s every gay boy’s dream whether you want to admit it or not. From the moment we both came out many many many moons ago, it was always our dream to go on an all-male gay cruise.

Since those days, the number of gay cruises available has completely mushroomed. As well as the large party orientated ones, there are now cruises going to places beyond the well-trodden pink destinations – like India, Indonesia and even the Galapagos Islands! There are even many gay naked cruises you can go on!

In this guide, we’ve put together some of the best gay cruises in 2019, which include all LGBTQ cruises, ie not just male-only. We’ve sorted them in order of when they depart…and oh boy are we spoilt for choice!

How to pick the ideal gay cruise for you

There are many different types of gay cruises available these days, from ones that are action-packed and exciting to those that slowly saunter down the Danube, stopping in at local wineries. You can cruise on huge ships, small luxurious yachts, catamarans or traditional sailing boats. Whether you’re looking to party with thousands of new friends, or cycle among historic towns before relaxing with a drink at sunset back on board, there’s a cruise for you. We’ve compiled all the different options here so that you can easily figure out which gay cruise is the perfect one for you.

Just be aware that some gay cruises are exclusively gay, meaning you will only be sailing with other gay guests, while others are actually small groups of gay travellers within a much larger cruise. This means you’ll still get to be around like-minded friends but there will be other straight travellers on the cruise as well. These sorts of cruises can be ideal if you want to travel with your straight friends, but keep an eye on the fine print if you really want to be only surrounded by your rainbow family!

Five Gay Naked Cruises for 2019 – The Nomadic Boys

Five Gay Naked Cruises for 2019 - The Nomadic Boys

What can we say? We love a naked cruise!

There’s nothing like standing on the deck of a ship whilst being completely nude. We can’t get enough of the sensation of the sun beating down on our skin, listening to the waves crashing against the sides of the boat. The seawater helps create such a refreshing ambience, one of serenity and calm. Plus, the nude gay factor means we’re surrounded by other naked men, great music, delicious drinks, and fine dining. It’s basically a floating gay man’s paradise…

We’ve never felt so close as a couple than when we were sailing across the sea, embracing the bodies that were given to us. Free of all shame and bodily insecurity, naked cruises are made to make you feel proud of yourself, whether you’re single or a couple.

If it’s your first time, you might feel inadequate standing beside other naked men with ripped muscles and perfect figures, but you will really quickly feel like a part of the crowd. This is a list of our favourite naked gay cruises from all around the world that we think you should set sail on in 2019.

Packing for a Gay Cruise – The Globetrotter Guys

gay cruise

You might think that packing for a gay cruise is like packing for any other cruise, however, it’s quite different indeed!

Our first cruise experience was with Celebrity Cruises and although this was not a ‘gay cruise’, it was very gay friendly and you can read more about it here. We loved the experience and as a result booked ourselves on to an Atlantis gay cruise to the Caribbean for the following year!

However, for our first Atlantis gay cruise our packing list is significantly different. Having talked to many avid Atlantis cruisers, there are many items to pack that we had never thought about in the slightest! Take a look at our list ‘What to pack for a gay cruise’ below and see if you agree.

The Globetrotter Guys are extremely excited to announce that we are hosting a Greek island hopping gay sailing trip from Mykonos to Paros, Ios, Santorini and Naxos for 7 days and nights from 17th August to 24th August 2019! Want to join us? Read on!…….

We have always wanted to do a gay sailing trip and have always wanted to go Greek island hopping! The combination of the two will be incredible. You can expect crystal clear waters, iconic scenery, golden beaches and the chance to explore 5 stunning Greek islands.

Where Do We Sail?

Our gay sailing trip will start in Mykonos, the gay capital of Greece! August will be the height of the season with parties such as Xlsior Mykonos being held and the island is sure to be full with beautiful bronzed boys. The boys aside, Mykonos looks truly stunning and we can not wait to explore the picturesque town.

From Mykonos we will head to Paros, one of the most popular islands of the Cyclades. Here, like all the Greek islands, expect to find whitewashed sugar houses, paved streets and blue-domed buildings. The island is perfect for everyone and also boasts some beautiful golden beaches.

Next we head to Ios. Ios is known for its lazy days any party fueled nights. As places like Santorini become more popular places like Ios still give you the opportunity to explore without so many tourists, especially since it has no airport so you can only arrive in style by boat or yacht like us!

From here we go to the iconic Santorini. This is often a must visit destination on anyone’s travel bucket list and for good reason! It’s famous for its perfect sunsets, beaches, food and is said to have some of the friendlist people around. It’s a photographers paradise so if you are looking for that perfect Instagram shot, look no further!

We will stop back at Ios on the way to island number 5, Naxos. Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades island group. It has mountain villages, ancient ruins and is well know for its long stretches of exotic beaches.

Finally we arrive back at Mykonos and finish with a White Party, check out what other themed nights we have below!

On a Gay Cruise – Gay Star News

Gay Cruise
The Netflix documentary, Dream Boat, follows a cast of gay men aboard their first ever gay cruise | Photo: Netflix

After the recent tragedy on a gay cruise this week, where 36-year-old Joel Taylor, star of Discovery’s Storm Chasers, died of an overdose onboard, I thought I would share my own gay cruise experience. Sadly, the fact someone died of an overdose onboard doesn’t totally surprise me.

I don’t mean to say any gay cruise encourages drug use; they all have strict policies which prohibit illegal drug use. But, while the organizers’ intentions are good, many decide to break the law and sneak drugs onto the ship to ‘enhance’ their onboard experience.

As soon as you board, you’ll find a huge array of activities to choose from. But, where a gay cruise differs from others is by the sheer amount of men on board, of course.

Being on a gay cruise makes you the majority, not minority

You are no longer a minority as a gay man – in fact, being gay is now mainstream. This freedom of self-expression is one of the many reasons that people choose to attend a gay cruise. However, with such a large array of gay men from around the world in attendance, stereotypes begin to emerge and the ‘freedom’ is taken too far.

Gay Danube Cruises – Passport Magazine

gay Danube cruises

Just say the words “the Danube” to people who’ve been there, and they’ll sigh longingly, and probably start a word salad of superlatives. The romance and beauty of this fabled river, which flows from Germany all the way to the Black Sea evokes a kind of magic, and justifiably so.

And that alone – plus the fact that you can do this river on all-gay cruises (offered by companies like the award-winning Brand g Vacations) – should be enough to have you running to your laptop to book one.

But just in case, here are a few more good reasons:

1. It has some of Europe’s most exciting and memorable cities, like Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Bucharest. It’s like a sightseeing superstore, except you don ‘t need your CostCo card. (Incidentally, Prague isn’t actually on the river, but it’s the starting point for most upper Danube cruises, so it’s considered a Danube port.)

2. The river runs through so many countries, it has multiple itineraries available, like Prague to Budapest, known as the “Upper Danube”, and Budapest to Bucharest, or the “Lower Danube”.

Cruise With the Nomadic Boys – Three Cabins Left!

Galapagos gay cruise - Nomadic Boys

Fancy visiting the Galapagos Islands with the Nomadic Boys aboard the Passion: one of the most exclusive luxury yachts in the world with an awesome group of gay guys?

You’re in the right place!

Nomadic Boys Do Galapagos

Our first gay cruise to the Galapagos took place in October 2016 and was  such a resounding success, we’re doing it again in October 2017. We’ve teamed up with the highly rated and gay owned Ishpingo Tours in Ecuador to host our second luxury gay cruise to the Galapagos Islands on: 12-21 October 2017.

Spaces aboard the highly rated Passion are limited to 12 people and we expect another sell out in 2017.

And because we love you so much, we’re offering our readers an exclusive 5% discount for this one in a lifetime experience with the promo code NOMADIC5.

THE WILDLIFE OF THE GALAPAGOS

The Galapagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean, around 1,000km (600 miles) from Ecuador’s coast. The variety of unique wildlife here not only inspired Darwin back in 1835, it completely captivated our group when we visited in October 2016.

This is one of the few places in the world where you get so close to the wildlife because they are blasé to humans. You’ll be so spoilt, no other safari will be the same again.

You Can Cruise the Nomadic Boys

Nomadic Boys Galapagos Cruise The Nomadic Boys are going on another cruise, and you can join them: “Lift your head up higher Stefan, your upward-facing dog is sloppy again!” Shakira the Sea Lion pulled no punches with her yoga pupils. She’s one of the 50,000 Galapagos sea lions endemic to these volcanic islands and also part of the welcoming committee when you first set foot on her home land. The sea lions were our favourite memory from our luxury cruise in the Galapagos. Their curious and playful nature will completely charm you. They love to pose, are totally unafraid, noisy and highly entertaining. But it’s not only just about the sea lions. There are many other highlights to visiting the Galapagos: giant tortoises, marine turtles, rays, sharks and so many different bird sightings to name a few. Of course doing this on a luxury cruise aboard one of the world’s most exclusive yacht charters is the icing on the cake! The Passion is the largest charter yacht in this archipelago, offering a 5 star Galapagos cruise. It is 48 metres (159 feet) long, with four decks, including a panoramic sky lounge, a second lounge area with screen for presentations, separate dining room, discreetly secluded spacious sun decks, Jacuzzi, bar and a whole lot more…all for just 12 people! This is exclusivity at it’s best, with a 1:1 ratio of crew to passengers.
