A Day in Frankfurt – Keep Calm and Wander

Keep Calm and Wander

Let’s just say that you have a day in Frankfurt. Or at least 8-10 hours of connecting flight in the city. If you are boarding on a Lufthansa Airline flight, there is a huge chance you will be transferred at/from Frankfurt am Main Airport. Don’t fret – the airport is well-connected with trains to downtown Frankfurt.

Once you arrive at the city’s main train station, everything there is walkable, assuming you have well-shaped calves like mine (aka, someone who likes walking for hours).

So, if you have a day in Frankfurt, here are my suggestions – starting from the main train station. Take note that this travel itinerary of Frankfurt does not include recommendations for restaurants and bars because you can always go into one – anywhere in the city. Also, museums and galleries are not included here.

Afternoon at the Main River – Keep Calm and Wander

Main River - Keep Calm and Wander

It is always a good idea to spend an afternoon by the Main River in Frankfurt – especially on a good summer day.

I’d highly recommend this and if you have a spare from your budget, stay at one of the bars or restaurants alongside the river.

If you have budgetary constraints, don’t forget to buy some cans of beer or food and have a merry, little picnic here. Join the rest of the locals as they admire the modern skyline of skyscrapers across the river. The sun sets behind these skyscrapers.

Frankfurt City Skyline – Keep Calm and Wander

Frankfurt City Skyline

The Frankfurt City Skyline from the Main Tower gives you an amazing 360-degree view. Standing at 200-meter (656 ft) or 56-storey, The Main Tower is located in the Innenstadt district. If its antenna spire is included, the building is at 787 ft (240 meters). You might think that its name (Main Tower) is boring and has no creativity, but it has a reason why it is called as such. Its name comes after the nearby Main River which is visible from the top.

Do you know that the Main Tower has 5 floors under and 2 viewing platforms for the public? It is the sole structure in Frankfurt with viewing observatory for tourists and visitors. Main Tower is Frankfurt’s fourth tallest building and also Germany’s 4th tallest.

Kaiserdom Views – Keep Calm and Wander

Kaiserdom Views - Keep Calm and Wander

The Kaiserdom views (aka Frankfurt Cathedral) show every visitor a highly-contrasting skyline of the city. The juxtaposition of the Romerberg Old Town and the city ‘s modern skyscrapers seem to complement each other’s skyline beauty.

However, getting up there can be challenging – even for the tough ones! Its swirling 328 steps to the top are so steep that you’d be dizzy if you climb without stopping. Yep, there’s no elevator to make your life easy!

The Gothic Kaiserdom stands at 95 meters tall and can be seen anywhere in the city. It dominates Frankfurt’s Old City and you’d never miss it. If you’re not good at reading maps while sightseeing, the tower is your point of reference.

Romerburg: Frankfurt’s Most Colorful Square – Keep Calm and Wander

Romerberg - Keep Calm and Wander

Romerberg is the most colourful square in Frankfurt that you must not miss. If you do, then, you couldn’t say you’ve visited this modern German city with an old charm. Romerberg is literally translated as the “Roman Mountain” but you won’t be able to see even a hump in this square. Yes, there’s no mountain here nor it is surrounded by mountains. The name itself, however, suggests that this city was once, undoubtedly, ruled by the Romans.

The colorfully-decorated gabled half-timbered Gothic houses in Romerberg would never fail to hold your breath away.

These medieval house has been here since the 15th century – though many of them are reconstructed after World War 2.

If you look at the facades of these structures – their patterns, colors, symmetries, angles, symbols, and statues –  they compliment each other’s unique, individual beauty.

A Day in Frankfurt – Globetrotter Girls

Frankfurt - Dani The past couple of weeks have been absolutely frantic – I’ve been to Leipzig and Frankfurt and I am on my way to Berlin as I am writing this. All of a sudden, my whole life is turned upside down! I can finally reveal the true reason why I went to Germany: I was invited for my final interview at the General Consulate of the United States in Frankfurt in order to get my permanent residency for the U.S.! This seemingly never-ending process has been going on for the past nine months and it is done now… at last. And I can finally talk about it – I’ve hinted about it here and there, and if you’re following me on Snapchat (mariposa2711) you’ve seen me go through the entire process, but I couldn’t talk about it publicly while I was still in the process of being screened and evaluated.
