Bears Take Over Palm Springs

Author: , February 16th, 2015

International Bear ConvergenceOver two thousand bears have descended on Palm Springs in California for a huge party – namely, the second International Bear Convergence.

The sunshine-drenched blowout – which must be a contender as one of the best-named LGBTI events ever – took over Renaissance Palm Springs across Valentine’s weekend.

The get-together, which featured pool parties, concerts and fashion shows, has seen attendance shoot up 200 percent since last year’s debut, according to head organizer Steve Harris.

Event Review – Bears on Ice, Reykjavik, Iceland

Author: , September 10th, 2014

Bears on IceThe Icelandic capital, Reykjavik, saw an influx of hairy and hunky men over the past weekend. The reason? The tenth, annual Bears of Ice festival, which, besides evening parties and discos, also includes sight-seeing tours of this fascinating and unique country.

This year’s program featured a Golden Circle tour to enjoy the awe-inspiring natural wonder that is the Gullfoss waterfall and local hot geysers. This was followed on Saturday by a group trip to the ever-popular Blue Lagoon – a natural, geothermal spa that draws in visitors from around the world.

Evening events included a party guest DJ Hi-Fi Sean at the Reykjavik club, Hurra.

‘It was a weekend of beary indulgence meets a geology lesson… we were entertained and educated at the same time, ‘ Sean told GSN, before listing highlights as including, ‘Geysers, lava, blue volcanic springs, big ass waterfalls, glaciers, hairy men, great food, friendly people, stuffed puffins… and one big finale with Bearracuda from USA.’

Bear Pride in San Francisco This Weekend

Author: , November 4th, 2013

Bear Pride 2013Come Veterans Day weekend, San Francisco will feel like it’s become a whole lot smaller as Bear Pride 2013 takes over. It’s Gay Pride but for the Bear community, which doesn’t necessarily have to do with physique, but more often the common thread for bears is adorning facial hair.

This is not a community I’m directly a member of. I’ve only ever grown one hair on my chest, just south of my left nipple, and somehow it disappeared the day after I noticed it. It just wasn’t meant to be.

Festival organizers have created this inaugural Bear Pride weekend full of events, shows and parties showcasing the diversity of bear culture and stars who are active in the bear community. Though, in my opinion, the real stars are probably the maids of the host hotels. All I’m saying is that these guys had hairs that wildly went astray after a romp in the sack and wound up lingering for months among my white sheets; it’s like finding dry pine needles on your floor two months after you removed your old Christmas tree.
