Events: Kannapolis – A Moving Portrait!http://glynnhouse.com/events/ glynnhse winterKannapolis: A Moving Portrait is a multi-media piece conceived by the composer, singer, and violinist Jenny Scheinman. It consists of a live score and sound design with re-edited footage from the films of H. Lee Waters. Waters documented over 118 towns in the Carolinas, Virginia, and Tennessee in the latter half of the Great Depression. Scheinman’s score draws from folk music sources. It also integrates a series of narrative songs that imagine the lives of several chosen protagonists. The audience will experience a sonic bridge between silent footage and live music. In the early fall of 1973 The Marshall Tucker Band was still a young and hungry group out to prove themselves every time they hit the stage.  Their debut album had already spawned numerous hits. The band’s recent release of their Greatest Hits album, in traditional vinyl form, is a time capsule from that period. “We were a bunch of young guys who didn’t know any boundaries” says founding member and longtime lead singer Doug Gray.  Gray is quick to credit the band’s current dynamic members with carrying on the timeless essence of the Marshall Tucker Band sound.  Together they present a powerful stage presence as they continue to tour the country and continue to be powerful force in the world of music. He started performing in nightclubs and theaters as the bassist with the family band at age five. He was on tour at age six with The Wooten brothers opening shows for legendary soul artist Curtis Mayfield. Fast forward a few decades. We know Wooten as a 5-time Grammy Winner. He’s a founding member of the Grammy award-winning band Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. Wooten is the only multiple winner of Bass Player Magazine’s reader’s poll (3 times). He was voted one of the top ten bassists of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine. He’s won just about every award awarded to a bassist. Events: The Capitol Steps http://glynnhouse.com/events/ The Capitol Steps begin in 1981, at a Christmas party in the office of former Senator Charles Percy.  Like most things in Congress, they never knew when to stop.  Over the past twenty-six years, the Capitol Steps have recorded twenty-nine albums.  Many of the performers have worked on Capitol Hill, some for Republicans, some for Democrats, and some for members who sit firmly on the fence.  In fact, the current cast of the Capitol Steps has at one time or another infested the offices of eleven US Senators and seven Members of the House of Representatives.   Most of these politicians have since been defeated or placed under investigation.
