Martha Redbone Roots Project

Author: , September 1st, 2015

Martha Redbone Roots Project! http://glynnhouse.com/events/ The Garden Of Love – The Songs of Glynn House Evening-cWilliam Blake is not the debut album of singer/songwriter/producer/artist Martha Redbone, yet it embodies a sonic rebirth and fuller flowering of her own ‘rootsy’ ethos. Warm, woodsy melodies take flight through the fusion of largely prewar string-band instrumentation and her heart-worn mountain holler, as Sister Martha tells tales of eternal humanitarian values distilled in the Southland since before America was founded.

Miss Redbone’s music flows equally from her own unique, award-winning blend of Native American elements with funk and her deep roots in Appalachian folk and Piedmont blues favored by the matriarchy that raised her on a rich sojourn from Clinch Mountain, Virginia, to Harlan County, Kentucky, and beyond to Brooklyn’s Dodge City-esque mean streets. Don’t miss the ‘Martha Redbone Roots Project’ at the Capitol Center for the Arts September 11.

KEB Mo

Author: , August 20th, 2015

KEB Mo! Over the past two decades KEB Mo http://glynnhouse.com/events/ has cultivated a Glynn House Evening-creputation as a modern master of American roots music through the understated excellence of his live and studio performances. His songs have been recorded by B.B. King, Buddy Guy, the Dixie Chicks, Joe Cocker and Robert Palmer, and his playing inspired leading instrument maker Gibson Brands to issue the Keb’ Mo’ Signature Bluesmaster acoustic guitar. He’s collaborated with a host of other artists including Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, jazz diva Cassandra Wilson, Buddy Guy, Amy Grant, Solomon Burke and Little Milton. Keb also performs the theme song for the smash sit-com Mike & Molly and was music director for TV’s Memphis Beat.

The three-time Grammy winner and visionary roots-music storyteller KEB Mo’ embarks on a new chapter in his career with the April 22 release of BLUESAmericana on Kind of Blue Music. His twelfth full-length album marks the 20th anniversary of his debut Keb’ Mo’, but, more important, the disc is a signpost of artistic and personal growth. Acoustic guitars feature prominently in these arrangements, which boast plenty of textural flesh via electric and resonator slide guitars, mandolin, percussion, keyboards, reeds and horns, but still reveal the gorgeously chiseled architecture of their bare bones origins. Don’t miss a great evening with KEB Mo at the nearby Flying Monkey September 3.

Capitol Steps

Author: , August 16th, 2015

Capitol Steps! The Capitol Steps http://glynnhouse.com/events/ were born in December, Glynn House Evening-c1981 when some staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Ronald Reagan was President when the Steps began, so they figured that if entertainers could become politicians, then politicians could become entertainers! Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress they couldn’t find three wise men or a virgin! So, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and created song parodies & skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor that was as popular in Peoria as it was on Pennsylvania Avenue.   No matter who or what is in the headlines, you can bet the Capitol Steps will tackle both sides of the political spectrum and all things equally foolish. What more would you expect from the group that puts the “MOCK” in Democracy.  The Capitol Steps will be at Wolfeboro’s Kingswood Arts Center August 28.

THE VAN BURENS
Dedicated to life, liberty and the pursuit of funkiness, The Van Burens turn American history into a high energy dance party on their infectious 2014 EP Presidential Lovefest.   One of the busiest bands in the Boston area since their ‘08 founding, these five guys from Quincy, MA , infuse their joyfully schizophrenic mix of rock, funk, prog, and reggae with a seriously ironic, tongue-in-cheek twist on pop culture.  The Van Burens swap lead vocals and group harmonies over eclectic, exciting songs ripe with danceable grooves, stellar musicianship, clever songwriting, and a singular sense of humor.
