1-naomi bestTRAVELING IN OUR FABULOUS GAY WORLD: Our Most Memorable Person of the Year – Naomi Wilzig

by Donald and Ray
As we go through life we meet literally hundreds and hundreds of people in our travels. Many, we do stay in touch with and meet again and again in our travels. One such person was Naomi Wilzig, owner of the World Erotic Art Museum in South Beach, Florida. She celebrated her 80th Birthday in December of 2014 and a Grand birthday party it was as we had written it up. Sadly, in April of 2015, she passed away in her sleep. We first met Naomi a few years ago when we were in South Beach and it was an instant friendship within a couple of minutes of our meeting and continued until she died last April. Naomi was truly a one of a kind person. We really do not think that we have ever met a person so kind, giving and generous and fun and funny! When she walked into a room, the entire room was brighter. Everyone who ever met her was thrilled to have her as a friend. She was elegant, stately, demure, and quick to laugh. She had a smile that would make you smile. As the late Adlai E. Stevenson said about Eleanor Roosevelt, “She would rather light candles than curse the darkness”, and the same can be said about Naomi.

Stefan in Indonesia10 Interesting Facts About Indonesia
by the Nomadic Boys
We always get excited when we see a bit of our own culture in the places we visit. So anything with a little bit of Greek and French influence immediately grabs our attention. Our favourite 10 facts about Indonesia ticks all these boxes…did you know the majority of the French frogs’ legs are imported from Indonesia…or even know where the word Indonesia comes from? (A smug Greek Stefan smiles knowingly…) “EH?!” we hear you cry… You heard right! Stefan was quick to point out that the word Indonesia is in fact derived from 2 Greek words: Indo meaning, “India” and ni-sia meaning “islands”. Ok, so Indonesia is not actually the Greek islands of the East. But it was enough to get Stefan excited to discover a piece of Greek influence.

Sapa mistHill Tribes Of Vietnam
by the Wandering Wives
Anyone visiting the north of Vietnam should visit Sapa. The journey to Lao Cai on the overnight sleeper train is an adventure in itself. Then an hour long bus ride along twisting mountainous roads, up into a higher altitude above and beyond the clouds. To say the views are breath taking would be an understatement. Sapa is close to the Chinese border and populated with ethnic minority tribes who have lived and worked on the land for centuries. The awe inspiring landscapes are perfect for getting back to nature and trekking is a popular activity in Sapa. The mountains have been sculpted into terraces for growing rice which are spread out in to the distance as far as the eye can see. The Black H’Mong women lead treks up into the mountains, where you can visit villages, see traditional houses and even experience a home stay in the mountains.
