Gay Cape Town – The Vibrant Heart of Africa Part 2

Cape Town - Apple MapsThe unrivaled star attraction in Cape Town is Table Mountain. Recently named one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, little can prepare you for the jaw-dropping beauty of this flat-topped icon.

It forms part of the Table Mountain National Park – a craggy spine, stretching from Cape Town’s city centre along the Cape Peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope, where it plunges into the Atlantic’s surf.

More than 20 million visitors have been ferried by the aerial cable to the top of the mountain, some 3,558ft above the city, in a journey that takes less than five minutes to complete. The views from the top are staggering, and on a clear day you can see all the way across False Bay to the distant mountain ranges that are home to the winelands.

A useful tip is to head up Table Mountain on the first day it’s clear during your stay – it isn’t uncommon for the table-top to be covered in a cloth of clouds for days on end, with no cable cars serving the route. While on the mountain keep an eye out for the famous local flora. Table Mountain forms part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, and despite being the smallest of the six recognised floral kingdoms in the world, it boasts the greatest biodiversity.
