The 2014 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival announced a $177,644 financial loss from this year’s festival season and organizers say the event will need a radical overhaul to return to profitability.

Mardi Gras CEO Michael Rolik told a member meeting today that revenue from ticket sales and fees had been below what the organization had budgeted for.

Organizers had expected to raise an additional $350,000 in 2014 which would have made the event profitable for the second year in a row after it posted a profit of $45,693 in financial year 2012/2013.
