Visiting Montalcino, Tuscany

Our dear friend, Bella (Dolly Goolsby) is on the go again, this time in Italy. She has graciously allowed us to republish her travel blogs. Enjoy!

Visiting Montalcino, TuscanyToday we drove back from Rome, which should have been about a 3-hour trip, but I suggested to Frank that we take a side trip through some of the southern Tuscany wine country. Specifically, I wanted to go to Montalcino, where the renowned Brunello wine is made.

It was a lovely side trip. Besides grapes, they grow a variety of other farm crops, so many of the fields looked barren, as they had already been cleaned up and plowed, ready for the next planting.

I noticed that many of the farms were also Agroturisimo. I hope I spelled that correctly, but basically, to supplement their income, the owners will house tourists, who sometimes get an opportunity to help out in the gardens, take cooking classes, as well as just relax, far away from the cities.
