Tasmania Courts Gay Tourism

Published Date Author: , September 16th, 2012

TASMANIA’S gay and lesbian-friendly tourism operators say the state is in a prime position to lure more pink dollars, regardless of whether we become the first state to pass same-sex marriage laws.

With talk of marriage laws leading to an economic boost driven by weddings, honeymoons and related travel, the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania and Tourism Tasmania are working on strategies to strengthen the state’s reputation as a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex destination.

Tourism Tasmania is working with GLBTI organisations to develop an umbrella group for businesses wanting to target the growing gay and lesbian market, while TICT is developing an official “rainbow” accreditation program.
