Gay Travel: Montpeyroux and the Delights of Southwestern FranceThe village of Montpeyroux is in the ideal location for those who wish to explore the delights of South West France. We are only 30 minutes from St Emilion, famous for its wines and largest monolithic church in Europe. The stunning views of the surrounding countryside from the top of the tower are worth climbing the 196 steps.

Gay Travel: Montpeyroux and the Delights of Southwestern FranceOther wine regions not far away include Bergerac, Bordeaux, Montbazillac, Pomérol, and Sauternes.

There are two wine producers within walking distance, who will be happy to give you a free tour and wine tasting. We can also arrange for private wine tasting at Le Manoir.

Gay Travel: Montpeyroux and the Delights of Southwestern FranceThe Bar in nearby Villefranche de Lonchat is gay-friendly, too, and provides delicious meals.

For the more energetic, there is swimming and mini golf by the beach at Lac de Gurson, canoeing and kayaking at Montpon-Ménestérol; horse riding at St Mèard de Gurson; a romantic hot air balloon trip at Le Fouilloux; Aquapark, paintballing and karting at Bergerac; and cycles can be hired locally for the seasoned cyclist or beginner.
Suggested day trips include Brantôme (Venice of the Périgord); Périgueux (with its domed cathedral); Sarlat-la-Canèda, a pretty town on the banks of the river; Archachon, a wonderful bay west of Bordeaux next to the Atlantic, and the Dune de Pyla, the largest sand dune on Europe.

Nearby, there are weekly markets, night markets, grottoes, Châteaux, gardens, museums, music concerts, and much more.

Nearest airports: Bergerac (40 minutes) and Bordeaux (90 minutes). A car is advised: car hire is available at both airports. Ferry ports in northern France are from 6 to 9 hours away by car.

Gay Travel: Montpeyroux and the Delights of Southwestern FranceLe Manoir de Gurson is unique in that it nestles in the middle of a natural 98-acre estate in the Dordogne, offering complete privacy for couples or groups of up to 10 people. Everyone marvels at how quickly they are able to relax when they get here. With the private pool overlooking the hidden valley, 3 fishing lakes, fields and woods, there is a lot to do without even leaving the premises. There are 5 large bedrooms, all en-suite (4 king-size beds, 2 singles), a fully-equipped kitchen (oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, microwave, table and chairs), a lounge with European tv and basic Sky, a dining room, front and rear halls and separate laundry room, so there is enough space for everyone to spread out and relax.

The sun terrace by the pool is perfect for breakfast, lunch, dinner and barbecues, with beautiful views and superb sunsets. Le Manoir is gay-friendly and self-catering, but we can provide meals if required. Smoking is allowed outdoors. Prices per week for the whole Manoir, for 10 people, range from 1200€ – 2500€ (that’s only 18€ – 35€ per person per night!), with a 5% discount for mentioning Purple Roofs with your enquiry. Lower weekly rates for smaller groups or couples: please enquire. Whatever you choose to do, you are assured of a very warm welcome at Le Manoir de Gurson.
