As readers of our Gay Marriage Watch blog will know, Mark and I celebrated our twentieth anniversary yesterday.

To commemorate the occasion, we booked a room at the Citizen Hotel, a Joie de Vive property in the heart of San Francisco, just a few blocks from the State Capitol.

Joie de Vive has a great upgrade policy – the day after booking our room, we received an email offering us an upgrade to one of the Penthouse Suites – normally $700 a night, for just $149 above our existing rate. We debated, but really, how often do you have a twentieth anniversary? So we took the plunge and got this fantastic room for just over $400.
