UT: Moab to Have First Pride Parade

Published Date Author: , September 30th, 2011

A gay pride march in conservative southern Utah was so unlikely that the idea started as a joke. But Amy Stocks figured it was about time, especially after the positive feedback she received online when she posted a satirical video about a small town that threw a pride festival for its one gay resident.

“I posted that video on my Facebook wall jokingly, but there was a lot of response from other locals saying, ‘We should do this,'” said Stocks, 34. “It exploded from there. The response was overwhelming.”

With help from Seattle transplant Ali Lingel, Moab’s first gay pride “visibility march” and festival has been scheduled for Saturday. She and Stocks expect between 500 and 1,000 to participate in the mile-long march that starts at Swanny City Park in downtown.
