Author: , May 31st, 2011

Prague’s first Pride festival will take place this summer. The organisers are confident they will put Prague on the map as Central and Eastern Europe’s capital of diversity, even though Prague is the last capital in the European Union to host such a festival.

The Pride team are currently preparing a programme covering five days of events from 10-14 August. They are hoping to attract a diverse crowd. A spokesperson said: “We want to show the general public and of course visitors from abroad [that], Prague can host a complete pride festival.

“Prague is one of Europe’s main LGBT travel destinations and we are organising a festival the city can be proud of. By now we already know there will be a wide variety of events organized by our many partners.”

Attend a Rural Gay Pride Event

Author: , May 31st, 2011

Rural Gay PrideNew York Pride? Check. San Diego, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, San Francisco, Boston, Portland, Kansas City, Dallas, L.A., Denver, Philly? Double check. Oklahoma City, Bisbee, Anchorage, Bozeman, Wichita, Boise, Flagstaff? Well, uh….

I know, not exactly the top of the list for most of you. Many of us actively fled rural life to get to urban safety. I get that — I was one of them. For a while, anyway. But I want you to consider going to a gay pride event in an out-of the-way place this summer.

Why? Because we need you. LGBT people live in rural America. We work here, go to school, own property, pay taxes, raise families, attend churches, shop and donate to charity. We don’t have a lot of gay bars, LGBT sports clubs, drag shows and neighborhoods where we can hold hands with our partners. Nonetheless, we live here. We love here. We have friends and families here.

Seattle’s Gay Capitol Hill: Dining Scene Launches Neighborhood’s Comeback

Author: , May 30th, 2011

Sitka & SpruceAnyone who visited Seattle’s Capitol Hill a decade ago could tell it was in limbo. The eclectic neighborhood, the epicenter of the city’s gay and lesbian community and home to a diverse range of ethnic dining spots, showed serious signs of tarnish. Boutiques, gift shops and bookstores were dying, and check-cashing businesses swooped in like vultures.

While Capitol Hill struggled, it was Belltown’s time to shine. The edgy neighborhood just north of downtown had become the big player on the city’s dining scene, attracting new ventures from marquee chefs. Belltown’s mix of upscale interior-design businesses and vintage furniture stores catered to all the high-rise condos going up along the Puget Sound waterfront.

But cities are fluid. Like elsewhere in the country, Seattle’s condo market collapsed in recent years, and Belltown now struggles with fast-dropping property values and a growing number of empty storefronts. On Capitol Hill, construction around Seattle Central Community College and a new transit tunnel and station have replaced run-down shops.

Chennai, India to Host 3rd Annual Rainbow Pride June 26th

Author: , May 30th, 2011

The third annual Rainbow Pride march will be held on June 26 this year concluding a month-long series of events highlighting concerns of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) individuals, the Chennai Rainbow Alliance announced on Saturday.

Announcing the events in Chennai, activists urged parents of LGBT individuals to accept and allow them to live life on their own terms.

Responding to a query on alleged health risks posed by same-sex relationships, Dr L Ramakrishnan of SAATHII (Solidarity and Action Against The HIV Infection in India) pointed out that male-to-female sexual transmissions accounted for 85 per cent of HIV cases in India.

Preferred Hotel Chain Launches Gay Pride Program

Author: , May 30th, 2011

A MARKETING initiative aimed at the gay travel market has been launched for gay-friendly hotels in the 600-plus worldwide Preferred hotel chain.

All those participating in the “Preferred Pride” cooperative must offer personalised experiences for gay travellers and promote equality in employment policies and services. The initiative is the brainchild of former Calvin Klein model Rick Stiffler, who says the gay hotel market will be worth [euro]800bn by 2011. The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) segment is worth 10 per cent of the US market. Studies also suggest that almost half of all gay travellers return to the same destination within a year, making the LGBT market a loyal one for hotels.

The first hotel in Ireland included in Preferred Pride is the Fitzwilliam Hotel in Dublin. This means the hotel will aim to target and retain LGBT travellers, and offer tailored packages at certain times of the year, including during Dublin Pride from June 17th to 26th.

Favorite Fire Island Restaurants

Author: , May 29th, 2011

Fire Island RestautantsOnce you are on the island you are restricted to the local options, and to be honest I am not of the kind that on my time off likes to cook, do groceries or hang around the kitchen. So out of all the option on Fire Island I have picked two of the places that will cater to all your needs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. FYI tea is not an option since I am 100% sure you will be at both the LOW and HIGH Tea where all the crowds gathers before the big night begins.

For breakfast, lunch or just to socialize during the day, my choice was Canteen. Indoor and outdoor seating areas, salads, sandwiches, pastries, coffee and more. Prices are pretty reasonable, but expect to pay a few bucks extra on everything. Canteen is located in between Hotel Ciel and the Pavilion complex.

When the lights come down, the best option is PINES Bistro. A little Italian Bistro with low light and intimate ambience, is located within the Sip & Twirl complex right off the harbor.
